EXCERPT:
Chapter One
Mary
I trembled in my bed.
Or so I thought.
Was it me? No. In my haze of half-sleep, I felt my cat, Paisley, sleeping beside me and breathing with a slight vibration in her chest.
But then I was falling, and fighting as I fell.
Darkness swirled around me and sucked the very breath from my lungs. With no air, I couldn’t scream, though I used all my energy to try. Help might come if they could hear me.
But who would come?
No one knew how I fought in my dream-sleep-half-awake state. How I left my body to fight on a supernatural plane where rules of gravity didn’t exist—until I was spiraling to my death.
Or suffocating.
Or clawing my way to the surface to breathe.
The darkness crushed my chest and pushed harder still. I scratched where I thought its face would be and peeled its skin until the metallic scent of human blood filled my nostrils. But the thing that smothered me wasn’t human, was it?
Logic managed to enter my thoughts, though breaths were hard to come by and oxygen was slow to reach my brain.
I wondered how someone got into my room, through the alarm, without detection. If it were a large human, why not finish me off?
But there was not a real human form. It was more of a presence, a blob, a changing force that covered my nose and mouth when it wanted …
But I fought.
I reached the supernatural space between my bed and the atmosphere, because if I’d learned anything through all those battles, it’s that there was no true in-between. I was either anchored and stable on the ground, in my earthly bed, and on my earthly feet—or I was not.
And when I was not, I was fighting for my life.
The other side is merely a door we walk through. The supernatural forces of evil exist just past the ends of our noses, across that invisible threshold, waiting…
I knew as much because that dark force fought with me to drag me into some deep space or pull me to an epic, Biblical-like hell and take my life.
I kicked. I flailed. I pushed imaginary hands from my throat.
The sudden stench of death and decay lingered in the air, followed by the sweet earthy smell of fresh dirt, newly mowed grass, earthworms, and spring rain.
That’s when I knew I was in trouble. It meant I’d lost my orientation in the battle. Because everyone knows a dead body stinks of rot as it’s put six feet under, but life stands by and waits and watches in the very ground that was disturbed to bury the deceased.
So, I fought harder for the earthy scent, the grounded feeling, and the light of life.
I dismissed the stench of death.
In a final push of life-saving strength, I concentrated on the spiritual realm.
Is this when I die again?
Another voice, not from that creature, answered me. No, this is not when you die.
With rage and determination, I twisted out of its grasp.
My heart raced as my breaths steadied.
I was asleep. I was awake. I honestly didn’t know what I was.
What I did know was that I fought for my life on a regular basis. What I didn’t know was why.
I gasped and bolted upright in the bed. Paisley stretched and rearranged herself against my cold feet.
I was a survivor.
I stayed alive.
I fought.
Because Shanar was determined to kill me.

Brutal Beast by Lynn Burke Reveal

Brutal Beast
Lynn Burke
(Vicious Vipers MC, #5)
Publication date: May 21st 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
I’m a no-filter, use fists first kind of man who’s suspicious of everyone and everything. As the president of the Vicious Vipers MC, it’s my duty to protect my brothers, and I take pleasure in doing so.

When a sassy woman who heats my blood moves in next door, I tell myself I don’t want the baggage she brings, even if he is a respectful kid who weasels his way into my heart. She’s jaded. A stubborn, lying wildcat I can’t resist, and I’m determined to find the truth of her identity and make her mine.

But I’ve got secrets of my own, long buried in the woods of Maine, that unearthed would define me as the brutal beast she fears me to be.

It’s in my nature to protect them from their past—even if mine is brought to light, destroying any hope for our future.

This was and enjoyable read and we loved Virgil,Mila and Devon and their story.

I always pick a favorite character that stands out and my favorite this time around was Virgil because he always seemed almost unapproachable most of the time but, when it came to spending time with both Mila and Devon he was anything but.We loved Devon and Virgil's interactions and so forth whether Virgil realized it or not he was taking on the role of a parent while also extending friendship to a boy who seemed to be a little bit lost.

We loved the chemistry between Mila and Virgil because if you just entered a room you could feel it between them but, Mila is constantly Waring with both her heart and mind but, with very good reasons to be that way after the situation she has found herself  in but, one thing is for sure is Virgil has met his match in Mila and he is addicted to her sassiness.

I really loved Mila and Virgil together they were super sweet together and even when she was trying to avoid him she was constantly drawn to the cocky alpha biker so much so her attempts made us smile.

Overall we felt it was a heart felt story and the characters we easy to love and as always we love all the teasing and so forth  among the clubs members added with a bit of suspense and bitter betrayal and unanswered questions about Virgil's brother created a bit of a mystery so much so we want answers too  it was the perfect read to pass the time.

Beautifully Broken by Bailey B Reveal

Beautifully Broken
Bailey B
Published by: December 20th 2019
Publication date: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Piper
Most people don’t think about the day they’ll die. They coast through life, blissfully unaware of how their time is ticking away. I wasn’t like most people. I welcomed death, wanted her to take me away from the prison I called life, but she refused. I tried twice only to survive. And then, when I thought I had nothing left it came.
A reason to live.
Rex was a small, unexpected ray of light my world of darkness that blossomed into a beam of sunshine. I thought, maybe this was why Death didn’t take me. Maybe she knew that if I held on a little longer things would turn around. But the third time Death came to my door wasn’t by choice. Someone else brought her, and I fear this time she might take me.
Rex

Being the son of a country star sucks. My parents are never around, I move every year or so, and I have no real friends. Everyone around me has an agenda. Everyone except Piper Lovelace. I can’t get that girl to notice me. Trust me I’ve tried.
Thankfully, fate stepped in and gave me the break I needed. I’ve got her attention, now I need her to give me a chance.

Author Bio:
Bailey B is an up and coming New Adult author. She lives in Lehigh Acres Florida with her husband, twin girls, and two fur babies. I Poisoned Her Coworkers by Jessica Frances Blitz & Giveaway

I Poisoned Her Coworkers

Jessica Frances

(Love at First Crime, #6)
Publication date: July 15th 2019
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

I poisoned her coworkers, so she injected me with a lethal dose of unrequited love.

In the past we had it all.
Or at least, we seemed to.
Then I let her down.
We both made mistakes.
We fell apart.
But no matter the years which passed us by,
I never forgot about her.
So when my brother falls headfirst into trouble,
I know who to call on.
I know she will help me.
Even if she wishes I would disappear from her life.
Even if she hates me.
But I won’t give up this time without a fight.
I will do everything in my power to win her back.
There might be some stumbles along the way…
Like an accidental poisoning for example.
But I won’t let that stop me.
Through gunfire and car chases,
I will make sure she knows she can rely on me.
We’re in this together,
Forever and always.
Who cares if things don’t get off to a great start?
What does it matter that her coworkers think I’m dangerous?
Is almost killing them worth throwing away what we have?
Then again, as some people say: there is nothing quite like love at first…crime.
EXCERPT:
“Well I never knew a thing about you. Not what was important, anyway,” she grumbles, although I hear her perfectly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I snap, unable to rein in my anger. I made a bad choice, a mistake at the end of our relationship. But that doesn’t change what we shared before it, or that I never lied to her. I was always who I said I was.
“You know what that means,” she retorts, not letting up one ounce on her own anger.
I glare ahead, watching the slow-moving cars and scenery around us as I take in a few needed deep breaths.
I don’t want to fight with her, and it’s clear she’s looking for a fight with me.
“How’s your sister?” I ask just to change the subject.
“No,” she immediately snaps. “You don’t get to ask me that.”
The fury in her voice is clear, and obviously it has not been abated since Gemma first saw me.
“I loved her, too. She was like my own sister—”
“And that makes what you did even worse!” she cries, much to the pain of the two in the backseat, if their moans are anything to go by.
There’s no room for argument in her tone, not that I heed the warning that this won’t be a fight I’ll win.
If she wants a fight then she’ll have one.
“I made a mistake. I thought—”
“I know what you thought. You were wrong.”
“I’m human, Gem.”
“We’re all human. What we truly are is our decisions. You made one that defined who you are. Now you have to live with that.”
Her words cut me, but I can’t blame her. I did make a decision, and it was the wrong one. But people make mistakes. The world isn’t so black and white, and once upon a time Gemma used to see the world in colors.
“I’m sorry—”
“It’s my sister who needs to hear those words, not me. Words from you mean nothing to me.”
I slam my mouth shut, trying to bite back the words, but they tumble out of me anyway.
I always did have a problem keeping quiet when I should.
“I didn’t realize you were so damn perfect. Must be nice to never make mistakes.”
She slams on her brakes harder than needed as we find ourselves stuck in the thick Chicago traffic. She turns her heated glare on me.
“I have made mistakes. Loving you was clearly one of them. But I’ve thankfully learned from my mistakes and I’ll never repeat them,” she harshly tells me.

Lost Horizon by Michelle Hercules Blitz & Giveaway

Lost Horizon

Michelle Hercules

(Oz in Space, #1)
Publication date: June 10th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult

A magical planet torn apart by war. A defiant space pilot cadet determined to save the ones she loves. The adventure of a lifetime.

Oz like you have never seen before.

Space Academy prodigy Dorothy Hanson doesn’t have time for love nonsense. She has one goal, complete the mission her parents started before their untimely death.

When a cosmic disturbance hits the Kansas Space Station, Dorothy seizes that opportunity to go on her first space voyage. She didn’t expect to be sucked into a vortex nor land on a strange planet ravaged by war.

Stranded, she must embark on a perilous mission to the Land of Oz, the only nation that possesses the technology to send her home. Three strangers join Dorothy in her quest, all carrying reasons of their own for reaching Emerald City. A man without memories marked with a strange symbol on his face. A cyborg with a chip on his shoulder and a mysterious past. And a scarred hellioncat plagued by nightmares in the dark.

Dorothy doesn’t know if she can trust them, but as their journey progresses, their bond becomes stronger and Dorothy’s feelings evolve from suspicion to caring too much. Torn between contradicting emotions, she must find the strength to fight the evil forces that stack up against them along the way. Surviving the trip on the yellow road is priority number one, but can she survive losing her heart?
EXCERPT:
With my heart pounding fiercely inside my chest, I leave Horizon’s shadow, circling around its mangled front to peer at what lies on the other side. My jaw slackens when I spot an armored vehicle in the shape of a spider and as wide as a tank, attempting to stand on its multiple mechanical legs. They are bent and can’t withstand the weight of the vehicle’s body, which has also suffered substantial damage.
Oh my stars. That’s what I hit when Horizon crashed. Is there anyone inside?
I run toward the alien machinery, stopping short when it finally collapses in a heap of distorted metal. A large piece of its frame—the door is my guess—flies out as if pushed by an incredible force. A woman dressed in black-and-red armor jumps out of the vehicle, her flaming crimson hair a stark contrast to her colorless skin. Her appearance reminds me of the wicked witches depicted in ancient children’s books. She pierces me with soulless eyes before she menacingly raises one hand in my direction.
“You! How dare you attack me!”
“I didn’t mean to crash into you. It was an accident. Are you okay?”
She ignores my question and ambles forward, favoring one leg. Shocked to see someone who looks human by all accounts and speaks the official language of the Star Freedom Alliance, I don’t realize what the woman intends to do until a glowing red energy sphere erupts from the woman’s hand, bearing down on me.
I leap out of the projectile’s trajectory just in time, missing the blast by a hair. The ground explodes in a shower of debris where the energy sphere landed. My survival instincts kick in. Getting back on my feet, I whirl with my blaster, ready to fire. But the evil woman moves so fast I can’t take aim. She fires another power blast in my direction, hitting the tip of my weapon and sending it flying away.
Before I can retrieve my blaster, she launches herself at me, pushing me to the ground with her on top. Her cold fingers wrap around my neck, pressing hard as her demented stare pierces through my eyes. Thrashing my body as I attempt to free my airway from her merciless grip, I spot a great shadow cross the sky, momentarily blocking the sun. Mirus. He’s still nearby. The knowledge gives me renewed strength. I will not die today at the hands of this witch.
Toto jumps on her shoulder and bites her on the cheek. The deranged woman shrieks before releasing my neck to deal with him. Free at last, I shove her off me and quickly roll back onto my feet.
I need my blaster.
Searching manically for it, I spot the weapon only a few paces from where I stand. I make a dash for it, throwing my body on the ground when I sense a blast coming my way. Another explosion sounds nearby as I curl my fingers around the gun’s handle.
Rolling on my back, I take aim, firing in the next second. The blast hits the evil creature squarely on her chest, sending her flying backward. Using my hand for support, I push myself off the ground. The woman is lying on her back, utterly still. Moving closer with care, I keep my blaster poised to fire. When I stop next to her inert form, I understand why she’s not moving. The witch is dead.
