BLURB

From the bestselling author of the Broken Trilogy and Dark Water Series comes Breached— the explosive finale to the Stonewall Trilogy, where brotherhood is forged in blood, loyalty is tested, and no one escapes the cost of war.

Agent Paul thought he understood sacrifice.
He was wrong.

One second.

That's all it takes for everything to change.

With ears still ringing, Paul is forced to confront one unbearable truth: the people he swore to protect are paying the price for a war that was never meant to reach them. Now they all must face the aftermath of his choices.

The deaths.
The carnage.
The pain.

Nicole spent her career documenting wars that belonged in someone else's world.
Until now.

Now the lines between truth and deception have never been more dangerous. Yet the greatest betrayal may not come from the enemy closing in—but from the man she thought she knew.

Bruno is done playing defense.

After years of watching his empire crumble, he's learned exactly where to strike. He isn't waiting for Blackstone to cross the border.

For Blackstone, this isn't just another mission. It's the fight for everything they've built—and everyone they love.

Because the war isn't raging south of the border.

It's coming home.

Book Review: Breached by J. L. Drake. Concluding book in an ongoing trilogy. Starring: Nicole and Paul, and their continued love story. Breached by J. L. Drake dives headfirst into a relentless surge of adrenaline, delivering a heart-pounding conclusion to an epic trilogy. If you're looking for a book that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go until the very end, this is it. It's a story steeped in high-stakes Cartel Drama, unwavering love, and the profound hope of building a better future for the next generation. Breached is a high-octane race to finish the mission that has defined the series. It's about getting the job done "once and for all" and laying the groundwork for a legacy, ensuring that the battles fought by fathers and sons continue to echo in future generations. The plot is a labyrinth of constant surprises, where long-held secrets burst into the light, betrayals lurk at every turn, and the resilience of love is tested. Amidst the chaos, bonds of "found family" grow stronger, and evil, though a formidable foe, is met with the unyielding light of justice. It's a satisfying, albeit realistic, victory – a significant dent in a larger scenario, but a triumph nonetheless. Drake truly excels at crafting an unforgettable reading experience. The pacing is impeccable, providing nonstop, edge-of-your-seat excitement that makes it almost impossible to put down. Every twist and turn feels earned, keeping the reader fully invested in the unfolding drama. The character development is a standout feature. Each character, from the central figures of Nicole and Paul to the wider cast of undercover operatives, is depicted with remarkable depth and distinct personalities. Special mention must go to Mark, the team's witty jokester whose addiction to sweets provides much-needed levity amidst the tension. The journey of Frank, in particular, offers a poignant exploration of the psychological toll of decades-long conflict, showcasing the human cost behind the heroics. At its heart, Breached is a powerful love story. Nicole and Paul's rekindled romance is incredibly compelling, their chemistry palpable and their journey toward building a loving family, especially for the endearing Chase, genuinely heartwarming. After a decade of sacrifices, Paul's reunion with his family feels like a well-deserved reward. The emotional depth doesn't stop there; the book gracefully weaves in themes of healing and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, balancing moments of sadness with joyous breakthroughs. Finally, the intricate plot execution and the collaborative spirit of the undercover operatives, brilliantly orchestrated by minds like Eric Noah, are truly impressive. Even unpredictable antagonists like Bruno, the "loose cannon," add layers of challenge and excitement, preventing the plot from ever becoming predictable. While Breached delivers a thrilling and emotionally resonant conclusion, it's crucial to note its nature as part of an ongoing trilogy. While some series can be enjoyed as standalones, this is emphatically not one of them. The plot threads, character relationships, and long-standing conflicts are deeply intertwined with the previous books. To fully appreciate the nuances, character arcs, and the significance of every revelation, it is highly recommended to read the series in the published order. Jumping in halfway would undoubtedly diminish the impact and clarity of this complex, character-driven plot. This book is an absolute must-read for fans already invested in J. L. Drake's "Embedded" trilogy. If you've followed Nicole and Paul's journey thus far, Breached offers a deeply satisfying, full-circle conclusion you won't want to miss. Beyond that, readers who crave high-octane thrillers, intricate spy plots, and robust character-driven stories will find much to love. It's perfect for those who appreciate a blend of relentless action, a touching romance, and the profound theme of found family, all against a backdrop of good battling evil. Breached is a testament to J. L. Drake's storytelling prowess, delivering a finale that is as exhilarating as it is emotionally fulfilling. It ties up numerous loose ends, offers powerful character resolutions, and leaves readers with a strong sense of hope for the future. For those who have been on this journey, it’s a triumphant and rewarding read. Prepare for a ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat, reminding you of the power of love, sacrifice, and the enduring fight for what's right. Rating Recommendation: Highly Recommended (especially for series readers)

At its core, Extraction follows Stonewall Agent Paul (also known as Eric Noah) and war correspondent Nicole Winter as they become entangled in a complex plot. The Stonewall team is tasked with a perilous rescue of a child they've never met, a child belonging to one of their own. The dynamic between Paul and Nicole is a slow burn, brimming with unspoken tension and palpable chemistry that promises explosive developments in future installments. The camaraderie and loyalty of the Stonewall men, their protective instincts, and their fierce dedication to a greater good are also compelling elements that make this group of characters incredibly endearing. While the intricate plot is a strength, some readers might find the sheer density of secrets and betrayals occasionally overwhelming. The complexity, while ultimately rewarding, requires close attention. Furthermore, the novel concludes on a significant cliffhanger, which, while effective for setting up the next book, may leave some readers feeling a tad frustrated after such an intense journey. Extraction is ideally suited for us who crave fast-paced thrillers with a healthy dose of romance and compelling character development. Fans of military suspense, stories featuring strong female protagonists battling against formidable odds, and ensemble casts of skilled operatives will find themselves right at home. Those who enjoy intricate plots with plenty of twists and turns, and who don't mind waiting for the next chapter, will be thoroughly satisfied. Takeaway: J.L. Drake's Extraction is a thrilling and expertly crafted suspense novel that delivers on its promise of action, intrigue, and captivating characters. Despite its intricate plotting and a cliffhanger ending that will have you clamoring for more, it's a highly engaging read that sets a fantastic stage for the rest of the Stonewall series. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an adrenaline-fueled escape.

EXCERPT

Paul

I was in a battle zone. In the split second of the blast, I’d thrown my body over Olivia’s. The explosion hit us like a wall of fire. It was blistering and deafening all at once. The heat had been instant, unforgiving, and merciless. It crawled over us like a living thing.

I tried to keep my weight off Liv as I rolled us onto our sides. We both gasped for air that wasn’t there. The oxygen had been sucked away, along with any sound. The ringing in my ears was intense, and I fought to block it out. It wasn’t the first time I’d been through a blast like that, and I knew my ears would bother me for a while. My vision was spotty, but I blinked to see Olivia and quickly patted her down to make sure she was okay. My eyes kept going to the vehicles, but I had to check her out first.

She was like a zombie, and I knew she was in shock. I pressed a hand to her shoulder and made the motion to stay down. I had to assess the situation. Distant screams from all around us made me realize this was so much worse than I could have ever imagined. I spotted the tracker Liv had handed me where it lay on the ground. I rammed my fist into the face of the lion, then stood and used my heel to crush it. Staying low, I moved quickly in the direction of the SUVs.

Holy shit. It might be a war zone, but this one included everyone I loved.

Chase! Nicole! Their faces pushed through my mind as I began to run. I looked for the guys and saw, like me, they’d transformed from husbands and fathers to combat soldiers. They moved swiftly about in the chaos. As I got close, I saw their faces were white with pain and shock as they tried to get everyone away from the still-burning vehicle. We all knew more could be coming.

What the hell had happened? How could this happen here?

Cries and shouts from our loved ones intermingled with the sounds of people as they arrived on the scene to help.

There was so much distraction, I couldn’t even fathom that Nicole and Chase’s SUV was the one that had been blown up.

John and Travis were quickly herding the wives and children to Zack’s entrance. Sloane raced past me, headed for Olivia. “I’ve got her.” Her voice sounded strangled and her face was pale.

Then I saw Savannah. Cat was at her side pulling her arm desperately to try to get her to move with the others toward the safety of Zack’s restaurant.

“Savi!” Zack appeared out of nowhere, and he sounded a mile away. He shook her shoulders, and she blinked out of the trance she was in. “Olivia! Easton!” she screamed.

“Olivia is over there. She’s okay.” He pointed to the stairs where Sloane half-carried Olivia up the restaurant steps. Savannah sobbed and ran for her daughter.

“Zack!” I yelled, making him look at me. “Check everyone for trackers!” He gave me a thumbs up, and I quickly veered around to head toward the inferno. I needed to see. I had to know. “No!” Mike’s voice boomed, and I whirled to see him intercept Cole as he hurled himself at the burning vehicle. “You don’t want to see that! Cole, stop!”

Audio Book Review for Code Name: Hacker by Sawyer Bennett

Code Name: Hacker

Sawyer Bennett (Author), Aiden Snow (Narrator), Savannah Peachwood (Narrator), Big Dog Books, LLC (Publisher)  Format: Audible Audiobook

I’m not the same Bebe Grimshaw I was years ago. The woman I was spent years behind the bars of the highest security women’s prison in the nation, my punishment for hacking nuclear codes as part of a crime syndicate I’d gotten in way too deep with. The woman I am today doesn’t regret what I did, or the fact that I got caught, but I am remorseful for the years I lost with my son, Aaron. Released from my sentence early thanks to Kynan McGrath, I joined his team at Jameson Force Security and now put my skills to use helping people.

I’m just trying to get back a piece of what I lost, focusing solely on raising Aaron and my work at Jameson. As long as I have my son and my career, I’m content. But life has a funny way of letting you know exactly what you need, and when a devastatingly handsome stranger named Griffin befriends Aaron at the park, I have to consider I might be missing something. A part of me that was locked away long ago reawakens, and I find myself looking at Griff in a way I’ve not looked at a man in more than a decade.

Just when I think things are starting to look up, my world is turned upside down. Turns out that meeting wasn’t an accident, and things aren’t going my way at all.

Griffin Moore is the man sent here to kill me.

Prepare yourself for a pulse-pounding adventure as Sawyer Bennett's Code Name: Hacker throws you headfirst into a world of espionage, redemption, and undeniable passion. This is a story where the digital shadows are as dangerous as the physical ones, and where a second chance at life comes with a hefty price tag.

The novel introduces us to Bebe Grimshaw, a brilliant hacker fresh out of a seven-year prison sentence, desperate for a fresh start. Her unparalleled skills land her a job at Jameson Force Security, where she's tasked with using her talents for good. As Bebe navigates the complexities of reconnecting with her son and mother, she finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the enigmatic Griffin Moore. But Griffin isn't just any man; he's on a mission to infiltrate her life, holding secrets that could shatter her newfound peace.

What truly shines in Code Name: Hacker is the explosive chemistry between Bebe and Griffin. Bennett masterfully crafts a slow burn, with Griffin's patient and caring approach building a powerful foundation of trust, even as his true motives are shrouded in mystery. The plot itself is suspenseful, delivering relentless twists and turns that keep you glued to the page.

The supporting cast from Jameson Force Security, particularly the formidable women, adds depth and charm, while the fiercely protective male characters add a compelling layer of possessiveness. Bebe herself is a standout character, a woman of incredible skill and unwavering loyalty, whose sacrifices for family and country are both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Code Name: Hacker is for fans of high-octane romantic suspense. If you enjoy stories with smart, capable heroines, alpha heroes with secrets, steamy romance, and a plot that keeps you guessing, then this book is definitely for you.

Sawyer Bennett delivers a fast-paced plot with unforgettable characters and chemistry that ignites the senses. Bebe's journey of redemption and Griffin's dangerous dance with deception make for an addictive read that will leave you breathless. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a suspenseful escape with a heart.

Nurse practitioner, Dana Kerrigan, finds her steady and comfortably predictable life suddenly turned upside down as the result of a family emergency. “What’s the deep sigh for?” he asks from his perch on the ladder, as I fold the last of the towels. “It’s a satisfied sigh,” I explain, picking up the stack of laundry to carry upstairs. “The kind that comes with being able to check a box off my list.” A faint smile appears on his lips. “You’ll have another to check off soon,” he offers. “I’m almost done here.” I’ve been so busy studying the man, I failed to notice how quickly he’s made his way around to the last remaining wall in the kitchen. “I see that. It looks amazing.” I glance around the space, mentally noting some patchwork that will need to be done, but at least the horrific wallpaper is gone and the walls will be ready for some paint soon. Maybe I can do some of that after work this week. “Let me run these upstairs real quick, and I’ll help with the clean up.” My linen closet sports organized stacks of linens and towels, everything sorted by type and size. I guess I’m a little anal, but I love when everything has a place. It makes life so much easier. Maybe that need for predictability is why my life had become such a rut before Mom’s health took a nosedive and forced me to pivot and adapt. But that process also showed me there is so much more to life if you can be open to change. That kind of flexibility takes time though, and like a muscle that has been dormant for a long time, it needs to be used and exercised. I’m working on it. Half an hour later I haul the last garbage bag stuffed with discarded wallpaper to the back porch. Leaning over the railing, I twist my head to look up at the sky which is studded with stars. I missed the sun going down, and the temperature must’ve dropped about fifteen degrees. It’s cold out, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we drop below freezing tonight. Inside, I find Rick in the kitchen with a serious expression on his face. He may have been watching me. “You have to go…” I guess. He shakes his head in response and slowly approaches. His hands slide around the sides of my neck as he tilts my chin up with his thumbs. His eyes are deep blue pools I find myself drowning in. His voice is low and his words send a delicious shiver down my spine. “I wasn’t planning on going anywhere.” Closing my hands around his wrists, I lift up on my toes until my lips almost touch his. “Yippie,” I whisper, before taking the initiative.

Blurb:

Where the water runs deep and the danger runs deeper, two enemies will risk everything to survive.

Josie McAdams has built her life on rules. As an intelligence specialist for Jameson Force Seattle, she’s made a career out of turning chaos into order and catching the bad guys before they strike. But when a mission on the docks goes wrong and a handsome smuggler saves her life, Josie is forced to face the one rule she’s never dared to break—trusting a criminal.

Having spent years running contraband through Puget Sound’s fog-shrouded channels, Finn Marlowe is no stranger to walking the razor’s edge between outlaw and survivor. When the beautiful woman he pulled from the water approaches him for help dismantling a human-trafficking ring, he’s hard-pressed to turn her away. When he discovers the same network he’s been working for is behind the trafficking, Finn knows he could lose everything by getting involved, but turning a blind eye could cost him even more.

She’s sworn to the law. He lives outside it. But as their uneasy alliance deepens, attraction sparks into something neither can control—and every secret they keep could be the one that gets them killed. Code Name: Harbor by Sawyer Bennett stars Josie and Finn, a security specialist and a smuggler who straddles the grey areas of life. This was a gripping tale; it piqued my interest, and I was engrossed from beginning to end.

We found the characters engaging and lovable; well, most of them. The villains played their parts to a T. Josie's relationship was one of the things that stood out in this story; it was very special. Finn's family was made up of a found family

Finn was a swoony character full of mystery, a checkered past, who made something of himself and loved what he did for a living, but started to question his life choices worth giving up for the woman he had come to love. One of the things that made Finn's and Josie's relationship blossom is that she accepted him for who he was, faults and all.

Josie is brilliant at her job, a go-getter and a lively character, and was on a mission to serve justice. Her relationship with Finn brought many complications, and some would consider it forbidden, but I loved that she gave Finn a chance to act on what was brewing between them.

This was a great read. It was steamy and action-packed. Twists and turns took place, with betrayals, tons of suspense, and surprises. Finn was a standout character; we saw major growth and life-changing moments throughout. The ending for this couple couldn't have been better, especially when they were complete opposites yet had that soulmate connection.

I listened to the novel as an audiobook, and we loved the narrators; they did an awesome job.
