When Caleb Smith saved Francesca Hamilton from a nasty situation with her father, she was beyond grateful. Sure, it landed her in Caleb’s bed wearing his engagement ring, but neither of them took that seriously. It was a means to an end, and he was so sexy and exciting, she was enjoying the ride. It wasn’t Caleb’s fault her feelings were changing, leaving her wishing things between them were real rather than pretend. Caleb took the FBI’s assignment because he wanted to end the tyranny of a man who’d hurt the people he loved. Odds of success were slim and the danger high, but he knew the risks. Francesca didn’t and was completely in the dark about her family’s “business.” And the more time he spends with her, the harder he falls for the gorgeous blonde. But to finally get retribution, he’ll have to destroy her world…

This us the first time author for us and we throughly enjoyed our first read by then.Looking forward to checking out the other books in its series.

I have to say that I loved most of the character's .The main characters were easy to relate to.I found them to be love able, like able, funny, sad, serious, possessive, protective, curious and both sexy and smart.

Francesca and Caleb's meet at one of her father's parties and they found that they were instantly attracted to one another. I found Francesca to be bright, beautiful, protective, curious, naive, had a sense of humor, sexy and smart yet sweet an innocent.Caleb on the other hand is the total opposite.Tall dark, possessive, dangerous, lethal and was totally hot.One look at him and all a girl saw was a blinking danger beware sign flashing around his neck yet ignoring it's warning.Twoopposites that are attracted to one another who end up having an forging and instant connection .It turned out they had  some major chemistry together knowing it would only lead to a one night stand.Does one risk it  knowing one night will never be enough for both parties involved?Caleb and Francesca made such a cute couple I was rooting for them from early on hoping that love would survive the betrayals to come.A relationship built on lies can never survive.Heartbreak is in the future for this couple but, Caleb wants Francesca and he is willing to go against his own conscience just to have her...

I always pick a favorite character in a story and mine is going to be Caleb.I have to say that I was attracted to him from the onset.Caleb was tall, dark, handsome, sexy, dangerous, protective,
possessive, lethal and had a dangerous aura  surrounding him making the perfect bad boy for us girls who love to live on the dangerous side.Sigh just to yummy...On the other hand I loved how he was totally different with his interactions with Francesca we saw the softer side of him that I imagine most don't ever see.He was possessive of her ,protective, liked teasing her ,playful and funny ,sweet and endearing. He truly cared about her and that of her safety .He stepped up when it mattered  knowing full well that it could not end well for them both.No matter that it was Caleb's mission to seduce Francesca I always felt that he truly cared for her and that she meant more and not just a means to an end.I felt that his feelings for her were genuine and not false .My heart broke for him as he constantly warred with his conscience about doing his job and trying to protect  Francesca all the wild at falling in love with her.I loved the mystery that surrounds Caleb he, was an intriguing character as you sensed there was more to him then meets the eye when it came to him.Caleb may walk the straighted and narrow now but has one heck of a checkered past that rivaling that of Francesca's  sinister father.I loved how in this story that Caleb's past worked to his advantage and not a disadvantage. I loved the chemistry and the sexual encounters he had with Francesca they were always more than just sex.I loved how he  understood Francesca and realized what her wants and needs were even without her expressing them as he was just that in-tuned with her. I loved how hestrive's to be a better person and one deserving of her and her love. Its the one time he wished he didn't have the past that he did

I liked Francesca as well she could be feisty, caring serious, curious, smart, sexy, and fun. What I loved about her most was how she was always wanting to help those less fortunate than her.I loved her big heart and she was passionate and kind.My heart broke for her as the only thing she sought from her father was his love and he was just nothing but a cold hearted man. The sadness she carried around with her touched by emotions. She was such and loving and caring person and deserved so much more than she ever received. Yet, loved her father no matter what with her own full loving heart.I love how Francesca actions surprised me more than once making her such and engaging and intriguing character through and through.

This was a page turner for me loved it cover to cover.I could not put it down once I started reading it.I loved all the twists and turns, the secrets coming to life, the love and romance and those OMG moments that I didn't see coming .I loved seeing love survive in the mists of chaos and especially when the entire time the odds are stacked against you.I love when you are able to connect with the characters you read about and I was able to do that with Caleb and Francesca. It makes for more of an interesting read for me.The other character's added that element of danger that always kept you on edge and excited to see what would happen next.An engaging romantic suspense read that was filled with lies, deceit, suspense, surprises, twists and turns all the thing that make an intense engrossing read for me,

A recommended read to all.Looking forward to this authors new releases.Would definitely read her again.

EXCERPTS: from HARD PLAY by Sheryl Nantus

EXCERPT #1

He got to his feet and stretched out, feeling a familiar hum through his muscles in anticipation of getting to business.
It took a second to find a fresh T-shirt in the duffel bag, his other one damp from Jessie’s hug.
Dylan pulled it on, trying not to think too much about how she felt in her arms. He didn’t want the distraction. He didn’t need the distraction.
But, Lord…she’d felt so good and right.
He walked to the rear of the mobile home and tugged back the curtain serving as a door for the bedroom.
Jessie lay there on the single mattress, sound asleep. One hand was tucked under her cheek, her face slightly obscured by her long, blond curls. Her other hand was tucked between her legs, her knees pulled up almost to her chest. There was a softness in her features, the hardcore professional mask slipping away and letting the woman show through.
Warmth spread through his chest. It was hard to suppress the urge to drop onto the bed and pull her into his arms, to kiss the top of her head before moving on to kiss other parts of her body.
Strong. Smart. Sexy.
He couldn’t fault her reasoning, no matter how much he wanted to. She’d seen an injustice inflicted on her family and tried to work within the system to right the wrong. But when she couldn’t, she’d pursued her own path.
Much like he and his men did.
Dylan pushed the thought away. There’d be time later to ruminate on Jessie Lyon and what part she could have in his life. Right now they needed to get up to Mount Charleston, to the cabin the Brotherhood kept for retreats.
He went to the front of the trailer, away from temptation.
A pair of headlights illuminated the small road sign at the end of the lane for a few seconds before going black.
Dylan reached out and flicked the light switch, plunging them into darkness. He peered out the window as the car turned down the road, the engine going silent.
Could be somebody with a wonky car, the engine cutting out and the driver hoping for enough momentum to coast all the way home.
Could be something else.
The driver’s window came down as the car came level with the darkened trailer and something flew out.
It wasn’t a flurry of bullets.
It was much, much worse.

EXCERPT #2

Jessie swung at him with her right fist, a move easily blocked with his left hand. Instinctively Dylan stepped in and spun behind her, trapping Jessie against his chest. Her arms were pinned and she struggled to break free.
“Look,” he said in her ear, trying hard not to be aroused by her movements as she wriggled again, thrusting her hips back. “I get you want revenge. I get—”
He gasped as her elbow drove home into his ribs. Dylan released her with a grunt, pushing her away.
Jessie moved into a fighting crouch, gasping for air.
She was tough, he’d give her that.
But he wasn’t going to give in to her demands.
At least, not easily.
“You’re not in any shape to be trying this.” Dylan tried not to stare at her mouth, the flushed skin adding to his desire. “You should be in bed.”
He flinched inside at the double entendre.
Jessie raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Make me.”
Dylan pulled up, unsure what he’d heard.
Take me?
Make me?
She feinted to the side with a low laugh and he grinned, feeling the hot flash of adrenaline race through his body.
“Show me what you’ve got,” Jessie said. “I can take it.”
“We’ll see about that.” Dylan went at her with a roar, taking her to the ground with a measured fall.
Despite her week’s incarceration, she proved a tough opponent, sliding free of Dylan’s hands more than once as they grappled on the carpet.
He was surprised at her strength, her ability to hold her own. The simple twists and grips he’d started out with to test her skills had shifted to tougher, harder holds as she continued to press on.
He’d made a mistake, underestimated her recovery rate. She wasn’t just keeping up with him, there was a distinct possibility she was going to beat him.
That wasn’t acceptable.
He went at her, put her down on the carpet and pinned her there on her back, her right arm stretched and in danger of being hyperextended. Her gasp made him wince, knowing he was hurting her.
He didn’t want to. But he couldn’t let her think she was going to waltz into the line of fire with a kiss and a swish of her hips.
“Fuck.” The word came out through gritted teeth as she struggled to pull her arm free.
“Tap out,” Dylan said. “Just tap…”
She rolled and slipped away, landing a punch to his thigh in retaliation, dangerously close to his groin.
Jessie got up, shaking her right hand.
“That’s enough.” He stood up. “You’re good, but I can’t…”
She bent over and rushed him, knocking the air from his lungs as they fell together to the carpet.
“I’m more than good enough.” She glared at him. “I’m better.”
He didn’t hesitate now, gripping her hips and flipping her over. Dylan straddled her, pinning her hands at her sides.
“All right. All right. Now let’s stop this before one of us…” He swore as she wrenched her hand free and grabbed at his belt buckle, using the grip to pull him down on her and throw him off-balance.
He groaned, his hips instinctively thrusting toward her. The weakness had her springing free with a laugh.
Dylan rolled to his feet and shook his head. “You’re making this hard on yourself.”
She raised an eyebrow and fixed her gaze squarely at his crotch. “I think it’s the other way around.”

EXCERPTS from DISTRACTING THE DUKE by Elizabeth Keysian

EXCERPT #1

Worn out by the effort of restraining his wayward thoughts and trying to both battle with and be polite to Lady Clara, Marcus turned back to his inhaling.
A few minutes later, he heard someone bring in the items they'd asked for. After taking in a few more soothing lungfuls of steam, he lifted the towel and turned round.
His mouth went dry. Clara had just pulled the neck of her gown away from her breasts and was blowing down the front of it.
"I would be most happy to assist you with that," he murmured before he realized what he was saying.
Good God, was he really trying to flirt with this woman, in his current pitiful state?
She removed her hand immediately and gave him a quelling look. "You're supposed to be steaming yourself. Pray continue, for the sooner you're done, the sooner we can conclude our business."
Unabashed, he ran the towel over his face and hair, and remarked, "I'm done now."
It really was getting horribly hot in here, but he needed to sweat out the fever if he could. He was so weary, too. The bed looked very tempting. How was he going to get rid of Clara so he could lie down and sleep?
"Are you still determined to remain in this room until I change my mind about the duel?" he asked.
She clasped her hands tightly together. "I am."
"Then you may wish to turn away."
To hell with the compromising position he was placing himself in. She was not a conniving miss out to trap him into marriage, and he was about to fall over from exhaustion.
He stood up, grasped the edges of his nightshirt, and pulled it up and over his head. Casting it on the floor, he padded across to the bed, slid beneath the linens, and glanced at Clara to gauge her reaction.
Her hands were over her eyes, but he knew she'd been looking at him. Her cheeks, visible between her fingers, were bright scarlet. Had he not had a sore throat, he'd have laughed outright.
There. Maybe she'd see sense and leave right now.
His foot came into contact with her bottom as he eased himself down the length of the bed, and she shot up like a jack-in-the-box, propelling herself speedily across the room.
"Come now, spare me your blushes," he drawled as she peeped at him between her fingers. "You're a widow. You know what a man looks like without clothes on."
She removed her hands slowly, her eyes flickering over his bare chest and shoulders before they came to rest on his face once more. "If you mean to scare me away, you won't succeed," she said. "A man's naked... A man's naked—"
She swallowed, poured herself another cupful of water, and drank it down so fast some of it escaped and trickled down the front of her bodice. He watched its progress with avid interest.
He coughed, then coughed again. Damn this chill! Why did his body have to let him down when he wanted to appear in perfect control?

EXCERPT #2

Clara crept softly across the carpet of pine needles until she came to where a rivulet split the dunes on its way down to the sea, and halted. She caught sight of Ulvercombe standing at the water's edge with his back to her, hands on his hips.
She stepped aside swiftly, her heart beating hard. She would have to hide behind one of the dunes to avoid being seen, if he should turn round. Fortunately, the tide was still some way out and he was thus a considerable distance away, giving her time to make her escape if he spotted her.
Plucking off the old shawl she was wearing, she spread it over the grass-matted dune, then lay down on her stomach so only her head—with the telescope pressed to her eye—might be seen. Hopefully, with the waving sea grasses fanning across in front of her, she was well-hidden from any casual observer.
Eventually, she managed to locate Ulvercombe with the glass, and when she did her mouth dropped open in shock. In the time she'd taken to settle herself, he'd stripped off boots, stockings, jacket, and breeches, and now stood in nothing but his shirt, looking out to sea.
Clearly, the man had every expectation of being alone, and had no idea he was being covertly observed. It was early in the morning, it was his beach, his pine forest, his sand. She should back away and return to the house as quickly as possible.
A small attempt to move was made, but then he pulled his shirt over his head and she was transfixed.
The muscles rippled across his shoulders and she recalled, far too quickly, the feel of that hot body pressed against hers.
"Drat it!" The glass lens against her face had misted.
Crossly, she rubbed it with a corner of her shawl, and scanned the beach again until she found the duke.
The completely naked duke.
Her breath hitched in her throat. "Sweet Lord in heaven..."
It was not the splendid symmetry of his body, nor the very pleasing curve of his buttocks, nor even the straightness and supple power of his legs that had elicited her exclamation of shock.
It was the scars.
She hadn't seen the backs of his thighs when he'd disrobed that day in his bedchamber. Now she could see them very clearly, and she could also see a complex pattern of pale, crisscross lines etched across the skin. They were scars, surely?
Had he received them in battle or in some horrible accident? Had he been taken prisoner and tortured by the French? Maybe he'd been involved in a fire and something hot had branded him thus.
The chance to observe the marks more closely was abruptly removed as the duke, who had been walking straight out into the waves, suddenly dove in with a splash and began swimming out to sea with deft, powerful strokes.
She shuddered. The water must be absolutely freezing. How could he stand it?
"Good morning, Lady Tinniswood. A very fine one, is it not?"

ABOUT ELIZABETH KEYSIAN

Elizabeth Keysian felt destined to write historical romance due to her Cornish descent, and an ancestral connection to the Norse god Odin. Being an only child gave her plenty of time to read, create imaginary worlds, produce her own comics, and write sketches and a deplorably bad musical for an amateur dramatics group.
Three decades spent working in museums and archaeology fired Elizabeth’s urge to write, as did living on a Knights Templar estate, with a garage full of skeletons, a resident ghost and a moat teeming with newts.
Elizabeth lives near Bath in England with her partner and cats.
