Review for Never Marry the Best Man (Whatever It Takes Book 4) by Julia Kent

Blurb

There’s no way the hot relative of a minor British royal is hitting on her. She’s misreading everything, right?

Except there’s no mistaking that proposal.

When 50something Ranney Martini (yes, Nessa’s mom!) finds herself being courted by the very English best man in a minor royal’s wedding she’s managing, she can’t help but laugh. He’s 17 years her junior, smoking hot, and an award-winning architect. The flirting is all in her imagination.

Of course it is.

But when a strange twist of fate leaves them trapped in Las Vegas, and Tom has a sudden need for American citizenship - faster than fast - Ranney proves she’s the consummate professional.

Because when you’re a wedding protector, you do whatever it takes to make the perfect wedding.

Even marrying the very handsome best man.

Ranney, a woman later in life, finds herself being courted by the best man from a minor royal’s wedding. He’s 17 years her junior, and hot! We have to be honest, we could not put this one down; we just devoured the story. Tom is a thriving architect living in Boston, but originally from England. He is a swoony character, loving, sweet, funny, frank, loyal, and hot. The perfect husband material, kind, loving, smart, driven, and genuine. We wanted him for ourselves. LOL We loved how Ranney and Tom seemed to run into each other time and time again; some of those situations were stressful, yet they created laugh-out-loud moments for readers. Their chemistry is explosive, and their connection is beautiful. Seeing Ranney vibrant and joyful, enjoying life in the arms of a man who made her feel safe and secure, melted our hearts. This is the first reverse age gap romance we have read. The age difference between the couple never seemed to be a problem for us; they appeared perfect for each other, with chemistry and a genuine connection. The plot was fun, flirty, and downright hilarious at times. Their road trip together was filled with witty banter, explosive chemistry, romance, love, and beautiful friendships. The couple faced challenges and a series of events, some seeming disastrous, but turning into a fun and exciting adventure for both Tom and Ranney. They created beautiful memories despite the hiccups they faced. There were numerous laugh-out-loud moments throughout the story that kept us entertained. The characters were awesome, funny, loving, and some added drama to the story. One character that stood out was the Uber driver, who seemed to play matchmaker. The entire cast of characters added depth and entertainment to the story. We fell in love with Tom from the start, but Ranney took a bit longer to win us over. Her refusal to see what was in front of her became frustrating, but understanding her perspective on societal perceptions added depth to her character. There were many memorable quotes and favorite parts in the story, but if we had to choose, Tom's mom's situation and Ranney calling Tom her husband for the first time were highlights. The surprise on Tom's face was priceless. This is one of our favorite reads for 2026.
