But the captain has been wounded by a woman before and guards his independent life. A swashbuckling man doesn't need an English heiress to make him slow down, feel again, or be challenged with questions about his faith-or so he thinks. Our Review

First off I love Jamie' s books and style of writing. She puts so much emotion into her books one minute she has you laughing hysterical and the other bawling your eyes out .Once I read her book the Angels Den I was hooked.I enjoyed this book immensely. 10 pages into the book I was bawling and 40 pages in I was laughing so hard that I woke my husband out of a sound sleep ! LOL Kendra was my favorite character in this book she kept me entertained the whole time.

Kendra was a strong character in this story. Her mother died giving birthday to her and it was just her father and herself. They were a close family considering they were aristocrats that is out of the ordinary. Her father was loving and caring Earl and when he died she was lost. Her Uncle steps into the picture and tries to marry her off to a 70 year old Earl and when she refuses her Uncle ships her off to the Americas.Being the strong person she is Kendra is up for the challenge.

Her voyage on a ship to America lead to many things. The start of a budding romance with the ships captain and pirates attacking the ship and they lived to tell the tell.Kendra is a sweet and loving person and your heart breaks the whole time for her loss and also the misery her wretch of an Uncle is causing her.And things are not looking up once she get to her Aunt and Uncle house either.

While working on her romance with Dorian the ships Captain making new friends and adjusting to a new life becomes a challenge. She has walked right into a hornets nest as she just left one in England and her future is not looking like a bright one.

This book was full of adventure for Kendra .She needs to be strong as danger is afoot someones out to kill her and dispose of her suitor. She needs to keep her whits to stay alive to see if she will be able to find true love after all and have the kind of marriage her parents had. This Christian Romance had a little bit of everything laughs, tears ,heart ache, betrayal at every turn and danger keeping you in suspense to see what happens next. Couldn't put the book down once I started love it!

This is a Recommended Read for all! And her other book Angels Dens was wonderful to. Working on the Guardian Duke right now as we speak.

Our Review

What an enjoyable read. This is a first time author for me.This story is a short story and is part of a series filled with love, romance and a hint of danger.

This is a romance between Lady Isabel and Jake .It was one of those romances that develops slowly after Jake found Isabel half beaten from a bunch of ruffians. While Isabel is recuperating from her injuries Jake and Isabel form and friendship that develops into more.Isabel hearing is impaired and she cannot talk after her beatings and Jake is the only one who seems to be able to understand what Isabel is communicating without words or sounds.

The author did a fine job in developing a plot with love and danger within this short story.I just love reading about Highlanders and there escapades.I love how protective they are about whom they love.

Jake and Isabel are attracted to each other from the very beginning. They seem to make the perfect couple.Jake is a bit cautious with Isabel not knowing anything of her or her past. Most of his fears come from having been married to spiteful wife who has passed on. He has trust issues.Isabel also has trust issues and she is running from a abusive father and a betrothal no better. She feels safe in Jakes arms but, not safe enough to tell the whole truth about herself. If she tells the truth she is afraid that she will lose the one she has come to love...

When reading a story I always seem to pick out a favorite character that I like to brag about but in this case they were all just so lovable.Isabel was one of those characters that made you feel protective of.She was such a loving individual. She cared for those all those around her.She was the type who had a little bit of backbone but not to fierce but a huge an loving heart. When she was happy she glowed.

Jake is handsome and fierce warrior .Tall dark handsome and deadly as sin.He is protective of those he loves and cares for.He has a great relationship with is brother Lord Dominic. All those around him love and respect him.He will go to all lengths to defend those who try to hurt the ones he loves but also avenge any wrong doing that was done to those he cares about.

I loved reading about Jake and Isabel's journey. There was love and pain .As always true love is never easy.Jake must overcome his demons of his past in order to commit to Isabel with ones whole heart. And Isabel needs to find a champion for her cause. She needs to heal from past hurts also in order to trust those around her to protect and love her.Even though you sense she does trust Dominic and Jake she is always holding back and in order to truly be happy herself she also needs to come to grips with her past and heal those past wounds.

Just loved it.The plot was interesting .It had a little bit of everything to keep the reader interested in the on going story. It was a fast paced read for me and and enjoyable one that had me starting on the next book in its series right away after finishing this one.

A recommended read to all. Looking forward to reading other books from this author and her new releases.A job well done.

Upon meeting the beautiful, feisty maiden, he vows to make her his wife.

Can Dominic persuade Lucy that she is more than just another woman to him? And with the reivers growing bolder, are there worse dangers than Lucy saying ‘Nay’?

Our Review

Another great story !Samantha Holt is a new author to me an I am really love reading the tales that she has been writing of late. This time around it has been a series of some hunky Highlander's that I am just crazy about.Love reading anything medieval so this series was right up my alley.

This story was filled with love romance and danger surrounding Lord Dominic. The land is in unrest and the outlaws are creating havoc all across the neighboring clans. He needs a wife and a partner to help him through this troubled time.Dominic learns of a betrothal made long ago between Lucy Montgomery and himself. In need of a wife he plans on winning Lucy's heart.

This story takes place in the winter and around the Christmas season making it even more romantic.Lord Dominic is a fierce fighter and warrior worthy of a wife.He has wealth and is a well liked Lord. Now all he has to do is convince Lucy to become his wife. Well, romance is never easy as Lucy has heard of all the exploits of Lord Dominic and wants nothing to do with this rake of a man.

This story was one of those love and hate relationships but, sparks fly between this couple that neither is able to ignore.Dominic wants to court Lucy to win her heart and her love and does not want her to find out about the marriage contract.Dominic wants Lucy willingly not forced.Lucy's parents on the other hand want Lucy married  but to find love also and will not force her to marry someone she doesn't love. You have to love Lucy's parents they are both loving and caring parents looking to the welfare of there only child.Lucy's parents was a love match and they want the same for her.Lucy's father is a force to be reckoned with he was a fierce warrior once upon a time and still is making him very protective of his daughter Lucy so not only does Dominic needs to prove he is a worthy husband he needs to convince both of them.

Love the characters of this story.Must admit at times I wanted to strangle Lucy .Her constant pushing Dominic away yet jumping him at every alone opportunity. She got on my nerves a bit.Loved that Jake and Isabel graced the pages of this current tale with there newborn daughter.Dominic and Jake have such a loving bond between brothers. You know that both want the best for each other and would always give there life for one another.

My favorite character was Dominic in this story. Not only was he a fierce warrior who would fight to the death for those he loved and those he was responsible for he was a kind and loving Lord to his people and his brother.Dominic had a lot of responsibility .It weighed him down at times. You felt sorry for him .He had the weight of the world on his shoulders and needed to find a mate strong enough to shared in those daily tasks. You wanted him to find a wife worthy for him as well.He would make a wonderful father and husband .

Lucy has a  very strong personality. She speaks her mind and is capable of protecting herself. No simpering miss here. She is a little bit of a warrior herself.I love reading about strong female characters. She is the perfect mate for Dominic and he for her if only she would start trusting her own heart and feelings and stop listening to the tales of others. There relationship was not and easy one.Dominic was a true romantic and did pull out all the stops to win her heart. One of my favorite scenes of the book was of them ice skating  Dominic such a romantic sigh...If I didn't love Dominic from the beginning  I was definitely head over heels in love with him now .

Danger surrounds this couple.I am rooting for this couple as they truly do belong together but the danger complicates there love.Lucy will prove she does truly love Dominic proving she is the one and only for him alone. Lucy's heroism in this story makes up for me begin annoyed at her at times.Theirs is the kind of love that will stand the test of time.

A page turner from beginning to end and a lovely tale it was.Looking forward to reading more of  Samantha's other tales and future releases.

A recommend read to all those who love to read about those Hunky Highlanders like me !

BORDERLAND BRIDE EXCERPT

“Isabel, what in God’s name are you doing?”
“I am returning to my father,” she told him breathlessly.
“You would see yourself in that monster’s hands? Why?”
“I cannot see Thornewall suffer for my sakes. And I cannot see you or Dominic harmed. Not for me.”
“We are grown men; will you not let us make these decisions ourselves? Thornewall is strong, we have endured worse.”
Isabel shook her head. “Nay, I will not see war brought to your door. If my father fails here, then he will turn his attention to your lands. They have not the strength of Thornewall, you have said as much yourself.”
Jake squeezed her arm until he saw her wince. Damn his brutish manners. He could not let her throw herself into the arms of a murderer for their sakes. “I can defend my lands, lass. I’ve done it before and I’ll gladly do it again.”
But she was right, Greycroft was ill prepared for a full-scale war and his own castle would not hold out long against a siege. It was likely he would die defending it.
“That is what I fear,” she said softly and Jake wondered if he had spoken aloud.
Her voice took on a desperate quality and she pulled against his grip. “Let me go, Jake, for I cannot allow you to place yourself in danger for me. Not for a woman that hurt you so.”
He considered her and saw the fear in her eyes - a fear that was not for herself, but for him, his brother, and all their people. How he could ever have thought her as wicked as his wife, he knew not. There was nothing in this lass but kindness. He gulped, fighting the words he would have to say. There was no other way.
“Isabel, you do not have to return.”
“I do, Jake!” She struggled again.
“Listen…” He grabbed at her other arm and pinned her still. “Listen, there is another way. Marry…”
She ceased her struggles and stared at him.
“Marry Dominic.”
Isabel blinked at him. “What?” she whispered.
“Marry Dominic. Your father would be a fool to say nay to such an allegiance. He is one of the richest men in England. There will be no war and you will be safe.”
Safe. He clung to the word, trying to ignore the ache in his heart. It didn’t matter, as long as she was safe. In spite of himself, he urged her to say nay, to confess her love for him, but he knew it could come to nothing. He had nothing to offer Lord Henry in return for her hand.
Isabel gaped at him. “Marry Dominic? But…did he decide this?”
“Nay.” He sighed. “‘Twas my idea.”
She gulped and her eyes misted with tears as she took a deep breath. Her composure regained, she shook her head in disbelief. “Why would you suggest such an idea?”

BORDERLAND BEAUTY EXCERPT

Holding out his hand, his dipped his head and eyed her from under his brow. “Will you dance with me, Lucy?”
She hesitated, glancing around as the couples took their positions. “I know not this dance.” In truth, she knew few dances, having avoided them for most of her life.
“I will teach you.”
Dominic snatched her hand and led her to the centre of the floor. Her heart slammed into her chest at the touch of his fingers. Why did his touch always incite such a reaction? Glancing around, she realised she could hardly tear herself away from him. Many were watching them. Especially the women.
“Stand there,” he ordered as he stepped back.
Her eyes darted from Dominic to the other dancers who moved confidently around them. He motioned for her to step forward and she did so, bringing herself closer to him. The dancers circled one another and Lucy mimicked them. His sapphire eyes remained on her, bright and alert and her skin tingled under his scrutiny. Why watch her so closely?
“Now step back,” he murmured.
She did as he bid, stepping back a little later than the other dancers. Her cheeks filled with heat but she could not tell it if was because of his examination of her or her lack of dancing ability. His eyes continued to follow her avidly and she dropped her gaze. Nay, it was Dominic who was the cause of her blush.
The dancers lined up and Lucy stumbled back, her eyes narrowing as Dominic’s crinkled in amusement. A lord and lady wove between them, working their way up the line. The lady’s hand brushed across Dominic’s chest as she passed, a flirtatious smile on her lips, and Lucy clenched her teeth together. He flicked a disinterested look at the woman before securing his gaze back onto hers.
Lucy and Dominic did the same, weaving through the other dancers until they reached the end of the line. Keeping her spine stiff, she resisted the urge to peek at him as she did so, but as they faced each other one more, his blue eyes caught hers and she could do little else but stare back.
Lord, she was getting lost in those penetrating eyes.
Stepping forward hastily, her eyes widened as his hands came about her waist. He lifted her easily and her heart came into her throat. The ladies around her squealed in delight as they too were lifted and then placed down, but surprise had struck her dumb.
“Move back,” he commanded quietly, his eyes darkening.
She faltered as she retreated, her pulse beating erratically. His look of desire confused her and she pulled her chin up. She would not be toyed with like this. It was time to wrest back some control.
They repeated the first movements and Lucy stepped confidently now. “I hear tell that you are searching for a wife,” she stated archly.
Dominic barely blinked. “Aye, ‘tis true. Why? Are you interested?”
“Hardly.” She released an unsteady laugh. “I thought you were to be married to Lady Isabel of…of Greycroft.”
“I was.” He circled her, appraising her openly as he did so.
She followed him with her gaze, hoping he could not see through her bold look. “But it seems she married your brother.”
“That she did.”
“Are you not angry? Did she not wound your ego?”
He shook his head with a shrug. “Nay. Jake loves his wife very much, why would I begrudge him that?”
“You did not love her?”
“I love Isabel as a sister. She is a fine woman but she is better suited to my brother. I do not regret that she is not my wife.”
“She probably does not regret it either,” she said with the raise of an eyebrow.
They wove their way in and out of the line and they waited as the other dancers took their place.
“Isabel did not suit me, but a woman like you…you would suit me very much.”
“Ha, you think me foolish enough to fall for such talk? I have heard much of your reputation, Dominic of Thornewall. You would promise marriage just for the chance of a tumble. I would not give up my virtue to such a man.”
His hands came upon her waist. “That sounds like a challenge,” he said before lifting her effortlessly.
He placed her down and Lucy gaped at him, speechless. The people around them clapped as the music ceased but Lucy paid little attention. Raw desire glinted in his expression and her stomach twisted. Surely that look was not for her? He was teasing her, playing with her, luring her in so he could strike her down.
She curled her fists and clamped her mouth shut as she swivelled on her heel. She would not let him make a fool of her again.

Our Review

Borderland Beauty has everything you expect

in a romance novel, good looking men,

beautiful women, a bit of misunderstanding

and struggles. Ups and downs and eventually

happy endings. But author Samantha Holt

takes it a step further, pushing the envelope

by delivering real substance to her story. It is

not your average, every day romance novel

. There are real heart felt moments, you shed

real tears at times, you are squealing in

delight at others. Her use of historical facts

and incidences from history lend to the

believability in her stories. Making you crave

the next page, the next moment, your

adrenaline rushes for what will happen next.

You find yourself holding your breath longer

than you normally would and cheering out

loud when the happy moments arrive, and

yet tearing at the tissue box when the sad

 moments hit.

This is the second book in the Borderland Legacy Series and they just keep getting better. I am really looking forward to reading the third installment after reading the first two books.

Oh how I loved seeing the confident, always sure of himself, cocky ladies man Dominic thrown off his kilter by an unknown marriage contract that was arranged for him when he was but a wee thing by his mother. LOL and as such to a stubborn, spirited, head strong woman at that. That is so what he needs.

‘The guards parted as they came through the gatehouse and the taller rider led the way, partially hiding the other woman. His feet twitched and he fought the urge to peer around her. Christ, it was like waiting for an execution. If he could only see the damn lass that he would likely have to marry.’

OMG I roared when I read that – Dominic sweating bullets worried what she would look like, what she would be like. And you know Jake was just there egging on his misery. This book had just the right stuff. Complete with Dominic making a mess of things and Lucy stuck in rumors and stubbornness. The cat and mouse game was so well written I fell in love with this book almost from the start.

Jake and Dominic two super handsome men, both in their own ways. Jake now happily married to Isabel (from book #1 – Borderland Beauty), and they are expecting their first child *Squee* excited about that. This leaves Dominic, sexy, viral and on the market hottie in need of a woman to help him with the day to day stuff. She has to be able to ignore all the rumors (some true, some not so true). Have a back bone and handle this amazing man. Are there applicants qualified – because - *eh-hem* I want to apply for that position – in a heart beat I am right there...

Lucy, oh yes she’s the one to fill the position for Dominic’s wife & Lover. Wow, is she a spit fire right from the very start. She is going to be one tough nut for Dominic to crack. Dominic is going to have to bring his “A Game” and then some to win her heart over. She has that thing locked under some serious walls.

“I warned you, Thornewall,” her father

roared. “I warned you not to play false.”

“Father, pray stop,” Lucy begged, pulling on his arm. “I was as much to blame as he. I should not have even considered being alone with him.”

Oh I loved Lucy’s mother, she has a strength about her that still’s a man’s heart and his tongue. Very strong, yet very soft, and sensible. Reminded me a lot of my mother. And her father, not afraid to put Dominic in his place and do whatever it takes to protect his daughter’s virtue.

“Come to me,” she blurted out as he

turned from her. Her cheeks filled with

heat as he froze and arched a brow. “I

mean, should you wish for company.

Pray come to me.”

Staring at her, his blue eyes flicked over her and her skin tingled. With a sharp nod, he left her, striding into the slowly darkening night.

Sweet Mary, how wrong she had been about him. Lucy prayed he would come to her this night.

When the Reivers attached Thronwall my heart was in my throat. Then like a knight in shining armor Dominic was there. But the loss from the attack had me crying. And Lucy for the first time really saw Dominic, for who he truly was, not the rumors she had always believed. It is so very sad that sometimes in death the truth about things, about people become apparent. And with Lucy, that is what it took, that among several things that is.

“Christ, Luce...”
The heat in her face rapidly gave way to a flush of desire. Dominic gulped and stared, extinguishing every doubt Lucy ever had about herself. Dominic wanted her. He needed her. He thought her beautiful. This eloquent, charming man had done more with one look than he ever could have done with a thousand words.

In the end we have two happy borderland brothers – all is right in the world. Two strong and spirited women bringing this strong, arrogant, handsome brothers to their knees. You really do have to read Borderland Bride. But make sure if you haven’t already that you read Borderland Beauty first. Job well done Samantha
