book blurb

Some lessons are harder to learn than others…

Doctor O-for-Awesome Owen Bennett is all about fixing broken things. Then the arrival of his orphaned nieces and nephew for twelve weeks causes his workaholic life to plummet into chaos. Hiring the beautiful but unpredictable Gracie Cooper as a live-in nanny might just get him out of a tight spot…or it could seduce him into a reckless affair.

After four years flitting around Europe, waitress/dog-walker/au-pair Gracie Cooper has returned home to New Zealand. Her plans to hang out with her big brother change when Owen offers a perfect solution to her crippling university debt. In spite of her sexy-stick-in-the-mud boss, she’ll spend fun days playing in Bounty Bay’s sand and surf with three cute kids. At summer’s end she’ll follow the sun overseas again.

Gracie and Owen’s opposites-attract connection is so unexpected and powerful that their foundations are rocked. But some things aren’t easy to fix. Some past hurts can’t be run from forever. And the lessons they teach each other risk breaking their hearts.
excerpt

“Sorry. Didn’t mean to wake you,” came his voice from behind the closed drapes.

“I’m awake. I’m awake.”

Parts of her were very awake, so make that three-quarters turned on since a delicious shiver zipped down her spine at the thought of him outside her room. She tugged on her robe, catching a glimpse of herself in the wall mirror.

Ugh.

Resisting the real deal wouldn’t be a problem. Rephrase that—Owen resisting her wouldn’t be a problem. Not sporting frizzy hair like a before photo for a hair-straightening product, her face flushed carnation pink, and a deep pillowcase groove marking her cheek. Dead sexy. Not.

And, oh God—morning breath. Gracie lunged for her handbag and found a packet of mints. She popped one into her mouth and speed-crunched it as she tightened the robe’s belt.

Finally, she yanked the full length drapes open to a bare-footed Owen wearing ancient blue jeans—which, yum, clung to his legs—and a plaid shirt layered over a white tee shirt. His short brown hair stuck up in a dozen different directions, and two days’ worth of stubble covered his jaw. And, yeah, she’d noticed he hadn’t shaved when he’d disappeared off to work yesterday morning.

Gracie slid open the door, and a wave of salt-tinted ocean breeze swept over her. She took a moment to suck a deep lungful down and hoped the fresh air flowing into her room would cool her jets. So to speak. Because even as jaded as Owen looked—and, bless him, it proved he was actually human—she still wanted to grab him by his plaid lapels and kiss the living daylights out of him again.

She tucked her hands under her armpits, just in case, and leaned on the doorframe. “Let me guess…since I’m a former bartender, you’d like me to whip you up a hair of the dog?”

He crinkled his nose. Adorable and hot—so unfair.

“I’m not hungover,” he said.

“My bad. You’re not your usual Barbie Dreamhouse self. Rough night?”

“You could say that.” He scratched his fingernails along his jaw. “But Barbie Dreamhouse?”

“Charlie thinks you look like a Ken doll.”

“Nice. Glad to inform you that I’m not molded from plastic.” His lips curved. “You’re not looking Barbie Dreamhouse yourself this morning. Rough night?”

True, but ouch. “Now that we’ve established I look like Frankenstein’s bride—”

“Never said that. I think you look cute. All rumpled and flushed like you’ve just been”—his gaze dipped to the V-neckline of her robe then jumped up to rest on her mouth—“woken up by some jerk banging on your door.”

Like you’ve just been…banged senseless in the last few minutes. Seriously not helping her control her internal thermostat.

Our Review

What a cute story about heartbreak and forgiveness with a possible bright future for a couple who had made past mistakes and were working to over overcome them. This was a first time author for me and I really enjoyed her story.

This was a tragic story where two young people who loved one another in the past but neither  fought for there relationship they might have had.Leaving them both miserable and apart for 20 odd years separate and apart neither really knowing there true feeling for one another.

Love the characters of this story the were very engaging from the very first pages of the story making it a page turner for me read the book in just a few hours.

Normally I have a favorite character that a pick out and mine would have to be Brent. He was just a loving and passionate person not only toward people but, the horses he cared for.Turns out Brent is a cowboy with a touch of a colorful past that he has been trying to make amends for .The man was a emotional wreck fighting to stay  and on the right path. His past choices in his life have made him very unhappy leading him down a dark and dangerous path but, now  he is in recovery and things are starting to look brighter when he opens a horse refuge farm. You really felt the turmoil that he was going through especially the thoughts he had of ones self.Meeting Casey again after so many years apart was probably one of the most happiness moments in his life he fell in love all over again.

Casey on the other hand was a little bit of a hellcat. My first impression of her when she was sitting on the porch drinking a beer and starring at the roofer guy having wicked fantasies of what she would like to do him was I really am going to like her..LoL

What happens when the fantasy man you are thinking about turns out to be the past love of your life ?
Hum.... more wicked things....

Casey has come back to her home town after divorcing her husband  to lick her wounds and start on a brighter future.Working a job she hates but it pays the bills she needs to look to he future to make herself happy  once again.Casey has a trouble past also the scars are there from her father being a drunk and and abuser coupled with her failure of being wife and mother she is being pretty hard on herself taking all the blame. You feel the pain she is in  her hubby was just a jerk and he is the one who should be taking the blame for his own mistakes instead of making her feel the guilty party.

We have to mention Casey mom too she was just the sweetest thing...Just loved her !

Just loved the story it was emotional ride. Both just wanted to forget and let go of the past and  work on there second chance at happiness.Loved being on Casey and Brent's ride of falling in love all over again and its ups and downs.I loved Casey sense of humor she was a pip.Brent on the other hand was one sexy cowboy who Knows how to burn up the sheets. There were some very hot sex scene's going on in this story that were filled with fun laughter  making them even hotter. That Casey was one lucky girl! The book was filled with fun ,laughter the pain of overcoming one's past throwing in a little bit of intrigue and mystery thrown into the pot.

One of my favorite scenes throughout the book was how Brent was always looking at Casey's shoes and getting a wicked grin on his face.It always made me laugh..

Will definitely be adding this author to my list of must read authors! Looking forward to see what she creates next....

My Thoughts and Review

Wow ! This book was fun witty and full of surprises I absolutely love it and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. What a page turner!
There was so much going on in the front line and the background also. The characters were great they all had personalities that were likeabe and also funny and one even on the more cautious side lending there humor to the story to make it a fun filled enjoyable read.

Eve used to be a spy. Eve is now though retired and married happily to Adrian Hadley-Attwater who is now an Earl and she is a countess .She is loving her new life even though at times it might be just a little boring.Eve is called back into service to fret out a spy who has stolen a file containing all the information about all the operatives they have in service. She needs to fret the thief out and bring this thief or spy to justice and this case to a close as soon as possible. Not wanting to do this as she is happily married and does not want to lose her husband due to her past she must find a way to go about and find the culprit and silence him or her once and for all .

Adrian is the suspicious sort and notices his wifes strange behavior. He follows her about and spies on her thinking she is having and affair.Boy, is he so wrong and is now eating crow every time he intervenes he draws even more conclusions getting him in even deeper hot water. The situations that Adrian creates for himself are hilarious !

Without giving away the rest of the plot and story you get the gist. Eve in a sense leads are husband on a merry chase even though she doesn't realize it.Her husband though has a very big secret of his own.Though it is true they need to catch the person responsible for taking the list and retrieving it as it endangers all parties a much bigger scheme is going on and another plot on top of that as the mystery unravels so do the clues to solve all the mysteries floating about.

I have to say that Eve and Celeste made this book really enjoyable with there big personalities quick whit and fun and loving nature. They had me laughing all throughout the book. And then the was Adrian who did nothing but cause havoc creating these all so hilarious situations he got himself into all over his jealousy over Eve and watching him try and get out of them was a hoot !

There was so much going on to keep you interested .Had a bit of romance a mystery and definitely tons of laughs for sure. I loved it.A Recommended read to all !Its in the keeper pile for sure for a re-read when one needs a good laugh.Been reading this author for 20 years and still love her !

They are Jinn!

My Thoughts and Review

Wow ! Loved love loved it !

This was the first moon I had read by Samantha Young and it was truly a treat to do so.It's a very unique story line, with some very awesome characters. I fell in love with the main character right away. The author has made such a believable cast of characters that it was easy to get sucked into all the craziness that's happening around them.Who would have thought to write a story about a Jinns !(They're basically like genies; "supernatural creatures in Arab folklore and Islamic teachings that occupy a parallel world to that of mankind." -from wikipedia.)

Ari's life seems like the typical teenage girl's life, she soon gets swept into a whole other world she never believed existed: the world of the Jinn. As goes about learning of her true heritage, Ari must come to terms with who she really is and what it means for her. But nothing is ever simple and when the story progresses and as secrets unavel she finds herself in the middle of a power struggle that she wants nothing to do with. Ari wants to but, can't avoid her destiny forever and reluctantly begins to dive deeper into the world of the Jinn with the help of her Jinn Guardian, Jai, and her best friend, Charlie.

I felt the characters were very like-able and had a well developed cast of characters. Smokeless Fire is the beginning to an incredible series surely to capture everyone’s heart as it did mine.I found the characters to be very unique and easy to fall in love with.I liked that the was a love triangle going on in the story which made it more of an exciting read for me.

I can't say enough good things about the book. When reading some books you are drawn in from the beginning pages and this one did it for me. The first few pages I read and I was hooked. The book became quite the page turner and I couldn't but it down. The love triangle between Jai and Ari and Charlie couldn't have been better ,there is always one party who wants what they can't have ,when the sad thing is they had it all along and now it to late creating a heart wrenching drama throughout this whole story.

This is a recommended read for the young and old. When the book was finished I was in awe and could wait to see what happens next! Went right to Amazon and downloaded book two and read the sequel into the midnight hours until I finished book two!Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
