A smokin’ hot second chance holiday romance from USA Today Bestselling Author J.H. Croix!
That guy. You know the one? He just walked back into my world.
It all started when the curtains caught on fire at a funeral. Actually, it all started seven years ago in college. Rowan Cole was that guy—the one I couldn’t forget. We’d once been best friends. Maybe more. We almost had it all.
I’ve spent years trying to forget him and the tragic night that tore us apart. As bad luck would have it, he’s the firefighter who shows up to rescue me from the church I almost set on fire.
Speaking of flames and melting, Rowan still has the ability to set me on fire. Just by existing. He’s downright delectable, all rugged man wrapped in a body of pure muscle. I do not want to want him again.
This small town is making it awful hard to avoid him. Especially when he’s determined to prove he’s worth it.
Rowan & Mae’s story is perfect for readers who love small town holiday romance, hotshot firefighters, sassy heroines, second chances, friends to lovers, slow burn, emotional romance with a dash of angst, plenty of steam and swoon, and a broody, protective hero who has to fight to win back the only girl he ever loved.
We have to say this is a first time author for us, and we have to say we loved second hand romance along with those sexy firefighters love those hotshot firefighters they are awesome.
For us, we like the characters but, we can’t say we loved them. Mae & Rowan have a history where they went from best friends to something more but, something went wrong and this couple went their separate ways, the problem is Rowan can't for the life of him think what he did for this to happen.
The issue for us, we just thought the story dragged on, and it was boring and that we never really felt any chemistry between this couple. We did feel for Mae and what she had endured, it was tragic and changed her life. After years holding on to her secret It's still affecting her life but, also, we felt her way of thinking was more of a brush-off kind of thing and move on and that bothered us because her past was a big deal. People deal with life crisis's differently, and I get that but, when she speaks of her past it comes off like it was no big deal, and we just could not get past that. We felt Rowan showed more emotion regarding her past than Mae did.
Although we had issues with the story, we loved that this couple got a second chance to explore what could have been. We enjoyed the side characters. We did like the fact that Rowan put in the work with Mae to pursue the woman who had captured his heart old those years ago. Loved that Mae and Rowan those special moments that turned into sweet and sexy scenes adding some spice to the story. Even though we felt this couple lacked chemistry, we felt they were perfect for one another.
We felt this story was missing a wow factor but, it was still an enjoyable read, and we would love to see what happens next with the next set of characters that are up next.
