Guardians,  #2
Print Length: 250 pages
Publisher: Resplendence Publishing, LLC
Publication Date:  March 26, 2014

Caleb is dark, hot, and commanding in human form. As a dragon, he’s a force to be reckoned with. When he witnesses the slave Lileta being beaten by his Overlord Odage, he nearly comes unglued. Without understanding why, he asks to take the slave as his own, but soon realizes his longing is more than an attraction to a beautiful woman. In a sick twist of fate, the gods have given him a demon as his mate—one he can never touch unless he wishes his own death. His only choice is to grant her freedom.

Lileta wanted to kill Caleb, but when she is freed by this tempting male, her anger turns to a desire that can only prove fatal. Even if she could claim him as her own, her dark past makes her unworthy of his love.

When their paths continue to intertwine, spiraling them to the brink of passion, can they resist the yearnings burning within them, or will they submit to their fatal desire?

Our Author Interview

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?

To be honest, I can’t think of anything. I really do love Caleb and Lileta.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

Well behind this particular book, Caleb himself. He came to me one day and insisted his story be told. The series itself? I had people running around in my head and they needed to get out. I've always loved vampires and dragons and thought it would be fun to put the two together. I wanted my vampires to be different though and that’s how I came up with the Guardians.

Why did you become a writer?

It wasn’t something I thought about growing up, but came to me very late in life. I love to read and have always been a day dreamer so figured I’d give it a go. I never really thought the fan reaction would be this good, but I am grateful and very happy it is.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

Oh several. Rebecca Zanetti, Lara Adrian, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter & Renea Mason just to name a few.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?

Well since this is my first series it's hard to say. I do know that after I finish a book in this series, I like to work on something else before I move on to the next book. It helps keep me from being burned out and I can come back with fresh ideas.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

Bones, from Night Huntress series. He's sexy and I have to say that when he told Kat he loved her I simply melted. I'm a sucker for a sentimental guy.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

Paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and erotica. I will read contemporary romance if it's something someone has recommended.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

I do agree. I think it’s important to know what the fans want, but at the same time you have to be true to yourself. If you are trying to write something simply to please the fans then I don’t think it’s going to be your best work.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Absolutely! It's not easy breaking the heart of your character. They're like your children. I also laugh at my own jokes. Yes, I'm crazy like that.

Did you have a Cover Designer?

My publisher has the covers designed.

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Well since I listed Bones previously, I'm going to pick my other crush, Acheron.

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

Sherrilyn Kenyon. I want to know how she wrote Ashs's book without becoming an emotional wreck.

Do just re-read your favorite books?

I don't. I have so many books on my TBR that I just can't bring myself to go back to re-read even my favorites.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?

I'd have to say not yet. However, I suppose it could happen. Since I've started writing I have far less time to read so I realish it when I do get the chance.

What is the funniest book you ever read?

Robyn Peterman's Fashionably Dead. My husband looked at me as if I was insane I was laughing so hard. I think my Kindle had to be wiped down a few times.

As a child, Valerie would often get into trouble for peeking at her mother’s favorite TV show, Dark Shadows. She can still hear her mother saying “It will give you nightmares.” She was right of course, but that did not stop Valerie from watching. As an adult, her love of the fanged creatures never waned. She would watch any vampire movie she could find.

Being a true romantic, Valerie was thrilled when she discovered the genre of paranormal romance. Her first read was one of Lara Adrian’s, Midnight Breed Series and from there she was hooked.

Today, Valerie has decided to take her darker, sensual side and put it to paper. When she is not busy creating a world full of steamy, hot men and strong, seductive women, she juggles her time between a full-time job, hubby and her two German shepherd dogs, in Northern IL.
