Acclaimed author Mary Wine captures all of the raw, rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, where tumultuous times bred a race of warriors who fought for country, keep, and kin, and loved as passionately as they lived.
Beautiful Clarrisa is sent to Scotland to marry the king, but is soon thwarted by the handsome Laird Broen MacNichols. For Broen, Clarrisa becomes far more than a kidnapped prize. Sparks fly as he enjoys sparring with the intelligent and independent-minded lady from York. Captive turns captor when Broen loses his heart and risks everything to keep Clarissa for himself.

Let me start out by saying that Mary Wine is one of my favorite authors. From the beginning of reading one of her medieval books I was hooked. I love her style of writing as she puts much thought into what she has to say into her writing of her books and you got to love all her sexy hero's.I love romance books along with Highland warriors so her books attracted me right off.I found Mary books out our local library and decided to give her a try and I am glad I did ! , been buying her books ever since...

Clarrisa is meant to be a Kings mistress and a broodmare to bore the King a son. This is not Clarrisa's wish but, that of her family and must do as duty call but, she is hoping to escape her fate or and intervention. Well, Laird Broen MacNichols has a beef with the King so sets forth kidnapping the impending Kings Mistress. The Laird is looked upon with kindness and fairness but he is also one of the best warriors to ever live.Clarrisa fears the Laird and feels that she is jumping from one fire into the next planning an escape of her own.

The pair are so different but, the eventually form a friendship. And although the Laird is a fierce warrior is has a soft heart that people rarely see but, Clarrisa is starting to.The two develop an relationship that brings a little happiness to both knowing this cannot last so the decide to live for the moment and enjoy one another for the time they have.As always love is never easy.

Loved the story and the plot was intriguing wrought with danger ,deception, and allies helping one another during the time of war of plotting aristocrats to see who is the rightful King. Clarrisa being a pawn in all there games! The book was fast paced and a page turner always wondering what would happen next and every time you thought these two love birds caught a break the carpet got ripped out right from under them. But, a love this strong must survive even if there looks to be no hope at all.

And wow what and ending never saw what happened coming as the tears spilled across the pages. A keeper for me ! Looking forward to Mary's Wines next book as always. A recommended read to all.
