Jade's Cowboy Crush Grand Finale Blast

On Tour with Prism Book Tours...

Announcing Kimberly Krey's new release!!
...pre-dating Cassie's Cowboy Crave.

6 - Brooke Blogs Demons - Gavin Emerson's Past

It was just while I was writing a particularly relevant scene, that I heard the song, Demons, by Imagine Dragons. It went along with the scene so perfectly that I bought the album (great album, btw) and played the song each time I was in the car so I could muse on it.

A little more about Gavin Emerson:
- He used to ride bull like nobody’s business and has the scars to prove it.
- He left home after an ugly fallout with his father at eighteen years old, got involved with gambling, loan sharks, and later joined the mob he borrowed from.
- He’s attracted to redheads and has several different nicknames for Jade, including his favorite, Freckles, due to the splash of freckles across her cheeks.
- Last but not least, he’s got a sleeve of tattoos that represent parts of his past.

7 - Mythical Books - Jade Miller, Single Mother

Here’s a few facts about Jade Miller:
- She has strawberry blond hair, pale skin, and a splash of freckles she’d do anything to hide.
- She dunks almost everything she eats in Tabasco sauce.
- She’s fiercely protective when it comes to her son.
- She lost her loving father to a long battle with cancer when she was young.
- She’s secretly in love with cowboys from the past, like Wyatt Earp.
- She is snarky, witty, and avoids drama like the plague.
- She’s just witnessed the murder of a co-worker and is about to enter a protection program on Emerson Ranch.

Oh yeah, and she’s about to fall hard for rebel cowboy, Gavin Emerson.

In this excerpt from Jade’s Cowboy Crush, Jade, upon butting heads with Gavin, reconsiders her plan to seek protection at Emerson Ranch:

Jade had assumed that a grown, mature man would show up to take her and Luke to some secret hideaway. Instead she’d ended up with an immature, kid-hating, woman-ogling dirt bag. Probably back there hitting on that female cop. Yet as she glanced up to her rearview once more, puzzling as to why she couldn’t see him, two loud thumps tapped at her window. She jerked back in response before rolling it down partway. “What,” she demanded, glaring at him. Or rather – his chest. He was taller than she’d realized. And more muscled too. And there were those tattoos, the near-sleeve of them encasing one well-defined arm. She’d been drawn to that look back in the day. Not any more. With a slow, relaxed movement, he hunched down to look at her. “What are you doin’?” The slow drawl in his low, raspy voice made her blush and actually wonder just what the hell she was doing. His thick, blond hair bordered on unkempt in a way that might make a weaker woman swoon. But she was not a weak woman. Jade didn’t fall for things like that. “I’m leaving,” she announced.

8 - I Am a Reader, Not a Writer - Smokin' Hot Pizza Bomb

Before we get to the recipe, I’m going to start with an excerpt. Here, Jade and her four-year-old son, Luke are instructing Gavin (rebel cowboy offering witness protection on Emerson Ranch) on how to ready the dough:

Luke’s big brown eyes were pasted on a lump of dough as he smashed it down with his small hands.
“Here. Put a few scoops on,” she said. “Just on one side, remember.”
Luke did as she said, and started piling toppings on next.
     “You need help?” Jade asked.
     Gavin held her gaze. “Maybe.”
She smiled, seeming to hold a hint of that playful side she’d shown last week at the pond. “Okay.” Jade walked around the counter and stood beside him. Gavin didn’t miss the warmth of her arm as it grazed his. “You need to start with some flour.” She reached into the small measuring cup, pinching some in her fingers.
“And where does that go?” he asked.
Jade dropped it on the counter. “Here,” she said, “and here.” With movements too quick to stop, she smeared her fingers over one side of Gavin’s face.
     Luke busted up.
“Oh,” Gavin said, reaching for the measuring cup next. “Like this?” He sprinkled the flour into his open palm, rubbed his hands together, and cradled her face. With the soft, white powder coating his hands, he ran his thumbs over the light splash of freckles on her cheeks. He liked the way Jade didn’t fight it. Only stood there and smiled as he drew a line from the top of her forehead down to the tip of her nose.
She batted her lashes at him. “Is that all you got?”
But his eyes were already set on something more – those lips. Without breaking his gaze, Gavin traced a finger over the smooth curves of her mouth. The top lip first, followed by that full, bottom pout. The powdery substance barely clung to the softness there, creating the lightest sheen over their pretty, pink color.
He ran a thumb over them next, willing himself to let go and step away, wondering if he’d ever been so hungry in all his life.

So when he finds out about an old marriage contract between him and his neighbour’s daughter, he vows to give the mysterious woman a chance. Upon meeting the beautiful, feisty maiden, he vows to make her his wife.

Lucy Montgomery wants nothing to do with the arrogant lord. She doesn’t understand his interest in her. Surely a man like Dominic could never fall for a woman like her? Hurt by the past, she refuses to believe that she is anything more than a game to him. If only she didn’t find him quite so charming.

Can Dominic persuade Lucy that she is more than just another woman to him? And with the reivers growing bolder, are there worse dangers than Lucy saying ‘nay’?

Our Review

Borderland Beauty has everything you expect

in a romance novel, good looking men,

beautiful women, a bit of misunderstanding

and struggles. Ups and downs and eventually

happy endings. But author Samantha Holt

takes it a step further, pushing the envelope

by delivering real substance to her story. It is

not your average, every day romance novel

. There are real heart felt moments, you shed

real tears at times, you are squealing in

delight at others. Her use of historical facts

and incidences from history lend to the

believability in her stories. Making you crave

the next page, the next moment, your

adrenaline rushes for what will happen next.

You find yourself holding your breath longer

than you normally would and cheering out

loud when the happy moments arrive, and

yet tearing at the tissue box when the sad

 moments hit.

This is the second book in the Borderland Legacy Series and they just keep getting better. I am really looking forward to reading the third installment after reading the first two books.

Oh how I loved seeing the confident, always sure of himself, cocky ladies man Dominic thrown off his kilter by an unknown marriage contract that was arranged for him when he was but a wee thing by his mother. LOL and as such to a stubborn, spirited, head strong woman at that. That is so what he needs.

‘The guards parted as they came through the gatehouse and the taller rider led the way, partially hiding the other woman. His feet twitched and he fought the urge to peer around her. Christ, it was like waiting for an execution. If he could only see the damn lass that he would likely have to marry.’

OMG I roared when I read that – Dominic sweating bullets worried what she would look like, what she would be like. And you know Jake was just there egging on his misery. This book had just the right stuff. Complete with Dominic making a mess of things and Lucy stuck in rumors and stubbornness. The cat and mouse game was so well written I fell in love with this book almost from the start.

Jake and Dominic two super handsome men, both in their own ways. Jake now happily married to Isabel (from book #1 – Borderland Beauty), and they are expecting their first child *Squee* excited about that. This leaves Dominic, sexy, viral and on the market hottie in need of a woman to help him with the day to day stuff. She has to be able to ignore all the rumors (some true, some not so true). Have a back bone and handle this amazing man. Are there applicants qualified – because - *eh-hem* I want to apply for that position – in a heart beat I am right there...

Lucy, oh yes she’s the one to fill the position for Dominic’s wife & Lover. Wow, is she a spit fire right from the very start. She is going to be one tough nut for Dominic to crack. Dominic is going to have to bring his “A Game” and then some to win her heart over. She has that thing locked under some serious walls.

“I warned you, Thornewall,” her father

roared. “I warned you not to play false.”

“Father, pray stop,” Lucy begged, pulling on his arm. “I was as much to blame as he. I should not have even considered being alone with him.”

Oh I loved Lucy’s mother, she has a strength about her that still’s a man’s heart and his tongue. Very strong, yet very soft, and sensible. Reminded me a lot of my mother. And her father, not afraid to put Dominic in his place and do whatever it takes to protect his daughter’s virtue.

“Come to me,” she blurted out as he

turned from her. Her cheeks filled with

heat as he froze and arched a brow. “I

mean, should you wish for company.

Pray come to me.”

Staring at her, his blue eyes flicked over her and her skin tingled. With a sharp nod, he left her, striding into the slowly darkening night.

Sweet Mary, how wrong she had been about him. Lucy prayed he would come to her this night.

When the Reivers attached Thronwall my heart was in my throat. Then like a knight in shining armor Dominic was there. But the loss from the attack had me crying. And Lucy for the first time really saw Dominic, for who he truly was, not the rumors she had always believed. It is so very sad that sometimes in death the truth about things, about people become apparent. And with Lucy, that is what it took, that among several things that is.

“Christ, Luce...”
The heat in her face rapidly gave way to a flush of desire. Dominic gulped and stared, extinguishing every doubt Lucy ever had about herself. Dominic wanted her. He needed her. He thought her beautiful. This eloquent, charming man had done more with one look than he ever could have done with a thousand words.

In the end we have two happy borderland brothers – all is right in the world. Two strong and spirited women bringing this strong, arrogant, handsome brothers to their knees. You really do have to read Borderland Bride. But make sure if you haven’t already that you read Borderland Beauty first. Job well done Samantha

Our Review

Beaten to within an inch of her life by a group of no good thugs, rescued by the handsome man – oh yeah who doesn’t love that kind of a book. I mean come on – dark hair, dark eyes, built like a god UM HELLO – “Me, Me – Rescue Me Sweetie -- > Right Here < -- LOL” Okay, Okay this book is all that and a box of your favorite Godiva chocolates!!! What can I say, Samantha Holt really knows how to write amazing romance novels. This is the first in her “Borderland Legacy Series” and all I can say is, if this is the beginning then it is only going to get better from here and that is going to be tough because if I could I would give this book 9 Hearts – why not 10 you say – easy – he never came and rescued me. LOL

Oh the men in this book they are the finest chocolate in the world. Delicious eye candy with words and moves and looks – make a woman desire to eat an entire box of chocolate with them around. How is a woman supposed to choose? Why follow her heart of course.

Normally when I read a book I will jot down notes as I go along to help me when I am writing my reviews. But alas, this book, I couldn’t put it down long enough to do that. Author Samantha Holt has done it yet again. No let me take that back, she has outdone herself with Borderland Bride.

The turmoil that Isabel and Jake go through, almost from the very start, to Isabel’s just outright mean father and kidnapping by a very evil man. Jakes heartbreaking past and tough exterior to Dominic’s strong character yet adorable and flirtatious ways – you immediately fall in love with each and every character. From the sweet and caring maid Winnie to James, Jake and Dominic’s right hand man. They draw you into the story as each page unfolds before your eyes.

Through each page one woman changes one man, a man who vowed never to trust or love a woman again. Though after what happened to him I probably wouldn’t blame him. Seeing Jake struggle to do right by Isabel, feeling unworthy to be loved by her. Seeing Dominic flirt with Isabel and set Jake on fire. And sweet Isabel longing for the love of one man while running from her past.

Jakes, strong, rugged, handsome and haunted by his past throughout the entire story, it’s so sad to learn of what he went through. He is a very strong man, yet haunted by a past that he just cant quite move on from and struggles between a passion and a love for Isabel to sticking to the “women are evil and not to be trusted”. But Jake has a heart that needs mending – Jake he is the forever guy.

Dominic his half brother and lord of the land. He is handsome, funny and a complete flirt “ladies man”. He would be so much fun to date. He loves to get under his brother’s skin – on purpose no less. I loved it. He had me laughing throughout the entire story with his comments and moves. A definite skirt chaser this one.

However, I did not like Isabel’s father one bit. That man set me on fire and made my skin crawl. A woman should never fear her father and a woman should never be a piece of property to be bartered with. No wonder she ran.

I fell in love with Isabel from the very start. A woman in the borderlands fighting for her life. Wanting to be free and to love freely of her choosing. To buck the norm and go against what is typically tradition. To be free from her fathers will to foist her into a marriage with an evil, hateful, abusing man. To be free, be herself, fall in love. I mean isn’t that what ever girl dreams of, what ever woman deserves?

Jake and Dominic, okay I can’t talk about them enough, I mean who wouldn’t fall for them. What are my thoughts on both of them you ask? Here is what I told a friend of mine. Dominic is flirty, funny, charming and absolutely adorable. Perfect for that tumble in the sheets, dating and fun times. But Jake, oh sweet Jake, talk about taking your breath away. Tall, dark, handsome, amazing body, brooding yet strong. Yes that is what I am talking about. He is the type you fall for, the all in for life type. Entire heart in. Yeah I think Isabel and I are going to have to fight over Jake – LOL!!!

Oh one more thing – you need tissue – make sure you have a box handy because there are some parts in this story that had me bawling. But there is also plenty of laughter and very happy moments. – PREFECTO!!!
