This is the last installment in this wonderful series starring Thorn and River. If you have been reading this series, you know it has an ongoing plot where the billionaires of this series and their women have had a target on their backs, and revenge is their game. The cast of characters was fantastic.
We love this slow-burning romance between Thorn and River; it is complicated and beautiful at the same time. Both come with demons of their pasts. Thorns is way more complicated. A former enforcer with mob ties and a questionable past, he was able to escape from and create a new life, but the past never stays buried. River has escaped from an abusive ex, who left both physical and mental scars, along with trust issues.
From the moment you start turning the pages, it has nonstop drama and intrigue. The romance between Thorn and River has a lot of on-and-off moments as Thorn struggles with protecting her from him and his enemies. Julie is a gem in this story, she does everthing to protect her heart, is patient and understanding with Thorn, never quite giving up on the man she loved.
As this is the final book in its series comes to a end the stakes were higher than ever. The friendships developed throughout this series were wonderful, and the ladies added fun to the stories and balanced out the darker themes of its plots. We have to mention how precious Violet was to Thorn and how he caved at every sweet meow.
This story was enjoyable as Thorn and River made a sweet couple. Some might be turned off by the constant push and pull between them, but we understood where Thorn was coming from. The fact that he knew River's past was full of violence was about protecting her, and his sheer stubbornness in not letting his past go was understandable. The characters are not afraid to show vulnerabilities in this one.
The surprise twists and turns were welcomed and exciting. The unexpected ally is even better. The best part of this story is that the women are not ordinary; they're special, and the men who claim them are lucky to have them.
