We thoroughly enjoyed this Highlander romance story. Ross is faced with the need to marry to solidify an alliance, set in 1360s Medieval Scotland, making it a perfect backdrop for a romantic novel. Ross's character is compelling as he enters into a marriage for the sake of his people, only to find it not as expected. Despite the challenges, he forges ahead. Ilysa's character is a delightful surprise, appearing sweet and innocent at first but revealing herself as a fierce warrior determined to protect her husband. Her generosity, kindness, and intelligence, along with her care for Ross's people, make her a truly inspiring character. Her love for his clan. It is evident, making her a memorable character. The story unfolds with intrigue and deception as Ross navigates saving his clan while seeking answers. While the initial dynamic between Ross and Ilysa may seem like enemies-to-lovers, their growing bond reveals the true gem that Ilysa is, and Ross comes to appreciate his good fortune in having her as his wife. Overall, this tale set in a beautiful medieval backdrop captivated us with its engaging characters. It was our first romance by this author, and we look forward to reading more of their work.
