This was a highly emotional story with wonderful characters. This is a first-time author for us as we happened to come across a video with a clip that drew us right in, and we had to add it to our TBR pile, and we are so glad we did. From the moment you start turning the pages, you are already half in love with Drix, a swoony character from the way he handled Lia and her child, the way he cared for them, and protected them touched our hearts. Lia is a woman who has suffered a lot of pain and is still suffering and running from her past. She lands in a town where she might find a new lease on life and start over. She was a fierce little thing and a great mother, and we loved how she opened her heart enough to put trust in others to move on and try to be safe once again. Lia's son Toby was just a little heart-melter throughout this entire story. Drix was our favorite, other than being a swoony character who was loving, caring, protective, and drawn to Lia from the moment he met her. Drix struggles with his feelings more often than not in this story, as he is hiding things about his life that might come back to bite him. We loved it! The plot was engaging, engaging the reader's emotions. The cast of characters was fantastic. A lot was going on in the plot's background surrounding the main characters, but affecting many characters as a whole as they are connected. The story had a bit of suspense, secrets coming to light, love, laughter, witty banter, healing, and finding love in the arms of the unexpected. From the moment we started turning the pages, we were hooked and could not put it down. We love the series so much that we started on book two, which turned into a binge weekend to read the whole series.
