And he thinks I’m a stalker.
I promise I’m not. Turns out we just happen to live in the same building.
Besides, I know men—athletes—like Avery. Egocentric, undeniably charming, downright gorgeous.
I dated one once. Until he broke my heart.
But that was a long time ago and I’m a smarter, more driven, and disciplined woman because of it.
In fact, I’m only in Tennessee to get my PhD in ornithology.
So what’s the problem? My visa is tied up in red tape, I’m at risk of losing the career of my dreams, and Avery Callaway is proposing to marry me.
I know his reasons are selfish, and his motive is personal.
I know our marriage is just an arrangement.
I need to remember that as Avery shows up for me in ways I never anticipated.
He makes me feel seen and cherished. Cared for and loved.
But is it real?
Or is being bound to the quarterback a blitz neither of us sees coming?

We enjoyed this story, the characters could not be more different, yet they meshed perfectly somehow. Avery has been floundering a bit not when it comes to his career but, as all his friends and family around him have found their special someone Avery is starting to feel lonely done with the revolving door of women and seeking something or someone in his life the only problem he is not sure he is capable of love. There is more to Avery than meets the eye.
Valentina is different, she is a breath of fresh air, where he is concerned, he is drawn to her and wants to get to know more about this mysterious woman. For someone so talented, this woman is filled with insecurities, and that family of hers preys on them, making her feel nothing she ever does is good enough, including herself included.
Our hearts went out to Valentina for what she must have felt. She is bold, brave, and beautiful, hoping that she will see what others see in her. This story is emotional and at times fun, and we love Avery's family as they are welcoming and loving, whereas Valentina's is the complete opposite, except for her grandmother.
Overall, we enjoyed the characters' slow-burn romance and we saw a different side of Avery that we loved, he was sensitive and capable of providing more than he felt he was even capable of. We loved that Valentina finally had someone who believed in her, supported her, was patient, kind and loving. We loved that Avery's teammates were supportive, and happy for him and gave him sound advice when warranted, his happiness was all that mattered.
We have to say we were rooting for this couple from the very beginning, their start was a bit unconventional, but we always felt this couple had found a connection, hoping they would pursue it even when it seemed the odds were always stacked against them. This was a nice fun read to pass the time, pure enjoyment.
