This was one heck of an emotional read. Griffin returning from serving our country is riddled with demons and the only one who seems to be able to calm the chaos is Ivy Cerberus's president's daughter. This was a slow-burn romance full of pain and agony that both characters were experiencing one hopeless in love and the other not seeing what was right in front of them. There is a lot more to Griffin's story than meets the eye he is drowning in life and is reckless with his health but, the love of a good woman will have his back and the love of his family will be there when he is ready to bare his soul. This was a read that is about forgiveness, betrayals, loss, love, and friendship had a bit of suspense and drama but, love is messy, and sometimes the way to get to your Happily Ever After is paved with challenges and has some ups and downs but, we loved the fact that Ivy never gave up on the man she was always meant to claim. There are parts of the story that were so heart-wrenching with the demons Griffin was forced to carry the scars left from war had us almost shedding tears from the pain the man was suffering. As hard for Griffin to live with the pain it was harder seeing Ivy experience the same kind of pain seeing the man who she has loved most of her life destroying himself right before her eyes. The Cerberus family is there for both of them and they are going to need them when secrets of the past come to life and intertwine the past and present.
