Release Date: January 7
Throw in a family history of bad relationships, the likelihood of the past repeating itself seems inevitable—especially after her ex turns stalker.
She’s a magnet for disaster.
But when a man walks into the Coffee Hut and asks her on a date, she isn’t prepared for the flare of desire. The pull of attraction is impossible to deny, and she gives love a second chance.
Navy SEAL Xander Hale lands in a Hawaii military hospital after a mission gone wrong.
If that wasn’t bad enough, his girlfriend breaks up with him.
Plagued by his current single status and suspicions over the mission’s bad intel, doubts fester about the direction of his life.
Until he stops for coffee and encounters a barista that steals his breath and shifts his priorities from a presumed military career path to civilian.
When danger closes in after a suspicious home invasion, Xander whisks Riley to the safety of his family’s island. On secluded shores, he’s determined to keep her safe. But dark memories are triggered by her past and followed by a hidden threat that neither anticipated.
I really enjoyed this story and absolutely loved its characters. The story was full of drama and complications had a serious tone to it and was shrouded in mystery but, it also had characters that were easy to connect with.
Riley was a character that was easy to fall in love with she had a bit of moxie and although she could be called out for being naive she was about giving people the benefit of doubt. Although Riley's life was complicated at the time I loved her easy friendship with Xander and how that friendship turned into a slow burn romance. Riley kept taking her lumps as they say one after another but remained strong and independent.
Xander was a sweetheart in our book he was fun and flirty and had a big heart. I loved the easygoingness of him. Although Xander is recovering from a mission and working through his own personal drama on a mission gone wrong he is not letting it consume his life but, he wants answers and he is bound to get them as his gut tells him something is not right but, when a sexy brunette catches his eye she is the distraction he is looking for. I loved Xander as a friend then-lover and this couple fell right in sync with one another and that chemistry had always been there just not the kind that is in your face. Loved the slow burn between them.
Overall we loved the story and its characters. The characters were easy to love and we loved that a mystery unsolved surrounded both of them that was completely different from one another. I have to say that the mystery itself was not one easily solved and when all things played out I was pleasantly surprised that I never saw its outcome playing out the way it did. This was a first-time author for us and really enjoyed our first read by them and we are looking forward to continuing this series.
