Wow! This story was one intense heart-pounding read. This was the kind of story that makes you uneasy and has you on edge the entire time. For me, my heart was pounding constantly because you never knew what was coming next because those stepbrothers were full of secrets, and the town held them also.
Nesrin was a character that was full of mystery and one that was miserable and unhappy and she was hurting herself physically to deal with her pain. When we first met her we thought she was just a broken little quiet waif and we could not be more wrong. We liked that she did have a backbone and she was not the kind of woman that was going to let a man walk all over her but, she would allow a man into her heart and mind and bed that could help put her own demons to rest.
Damien was a character that we found to be handsome, sexy as sin, an alpha, had confidence, had a dominant personality, and one who could be downright scary and lethal at times and one who was quite a mystery. Damien holds secrets and has demons himself and it's no wonder he was drawn to Nesrin from the moment they met.
Overall the story was dark and intense and a bit scary and had you glued to the pages the entire time. I loved the characters the good and the bad. Those Thorne brothers were something else but, they made Nesrin feel like she was part of a family for the first time ever. The characters are all shrouded in mystery and so is the town as it holds many dark secrets.
From one minute to the next you were trying to figure out what those secrets were and the men who were part of them and then other times it had me wondering if the town was part of a cult or something more sinister.
The ending was explosive and jaw-dropping as all those craftily concocted lies are now being exposed and the kind that brings extreme hurt yet, all of your life up until this point now makes a whole lot of sense. The story itself was full of pain and angsty and filled with emotion and so much so that you could not help but, feel the pain of those characters and love them with their faults and all.
The author was right and warn readers the story might have triggers because Nesrin's coping mechanism was a serious one and one that is not uncommon but if you like dark and intense reads this one is all those things. Then you had the age gap thing and the forbidden romance thing going on but, I have to say that as you turn the pages that issue never seemed to be a problem because you were constantly rooting for two people who were so broken to find something they so desperately needed in someone to finally lay those demons to rest and find a love that would eventually be healing your heart and your soul.
