Gemini Series Book #1

By Kristen DaRay

Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Blurb-

My entire life has been a lie: My parents didn't die in a car accident. They're not even dead. I'm not American. I'm not even human. I have strange powers, and I'm the heir to the throne of the planet Emreiana.

If I take the crown, I have to leave behind everything I have known here on Earth. I would have to say goodbye to my friends and leave behind Kyle, the boy I've loved since I was five. If I don't, then I risk the Bremoir finding me here on Earth and destroying everything I love.

Our Interview with Kristen

What would you have done differently if you was the main character of your book?

If I was Carson, I probably would have went right away. But that is because you don’t get to go outside your solar system, even your planet, everyday. It is an opportunity of a lifetime that I am too geeky to pass up.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

Behind this book in particular would be events in my life. I kind of just wanted to get away, so at first it was about a girl who wanted to get away and finally had the chance to get out of the solar system. BUT Carson has a mind and life of her own so once it was finally out, it was the opposite. She had a life and she didn’t want to give it up. Isn’t that funny?

Who designed your book cover for you ?

Ana Fagarrazzi

Why did you become a writer ?

When I was in the 6th grade, after I won a writing contest, I had tried writing my first books, really they were journals on my life, and I kept deleting them. But, it was when I was 15 that I realized my passion for writing genre fiction (Paranormal, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy). It was then that I knew that I wanted to be a writer. I had told everyone in my family that I wanted to be a writer and showed some the first chapter of the Love for Blood, a vampire story that I had no heart to finish. While my family supported my dreams they told me to keep in mind when searching for a college that my writing would be a side job. I guess I couldn’t argue with that with todays economy. At first I was going to go to school online and be an airline attendant. I would study strait English to improve my writing. However, my plans for that did not go through for multiple reasons. Then I decided to go to UNA. I registered as an Education Major. While I love the idea of teaching and thought it was something I could do, I realized after helping with the church children’s music that I wasn’t ready for it yet and perhaps later in my life I could get a Masters and teach college. So from there I changed my major to strait English Professional Writing. That is when I truly made a decision to be a writer.I should note that I minored in Theater. While I love writing my books, I also would enjoy writing a script for people to enjoy and watch. I’m just waiting for that big story to come to my mind.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what there fans think and want in there continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that ?

A good book would sell regardless, but I think an involved author would get a good rep.Myself, I like hearing what people think. BUT, what they want as far as where the story goes may not be what my character wants or the story needs. So unfortunately for any of my readers and fans, you may or may not like the ending of the story.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

I have several. It’s hard to pin them all down and say this one I like more than that one. If there is an author I really think proved themselves I think would be Christopher Paolini. He started writing at such a young age, and did a wonderful job! Such a great story he has given the world. I may never be as good as him, but if I could be like anyone that’s who I would aspire too.

As an avid reader one of the things I look for in a new author I find is if they write there books in series .I love the connecting books and there characters they make the books all so special and familiar.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series ?

Oh do I! I have a hard time writing just one book. There is too much story for me to end it with just one. Maybe one day I’ll write a single book, but so far that story has not came to me yet.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

This is a very tough question because I have ships way more than I have crushes. Mainly, because  I am very happily married (does that give me brownie points honey?). If there is one male character I really like it would probably be Peeta from the hunger games. He really didn’t have any talents and he probably would have died if it wasn’t for Katniss, but it’s the dorky ones I end up liking :P

If you were going to cast the hero of your book, what actor would get the part?

Erica Dasher,

I could not get her out of my head when I was writing. She would most def be Carson if I had a choice.

How hard do you laugh when writing a funny scene?

This is going to sound awful but I don’t show emotion when I write. It’s not until I go back and read it that I react to it.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time ?

Sci Fi, Fantasy, or Paranormal. It’s sad but I kind of lean towards what is mainstream right now. Dystopian seems to be in so that is what I have been reading lately.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Back with the emotions... I feel bad that I am a robot when I write. Especially if someone dies. I probably should be more connected during that time, but no matter what I do I just can’t, until I read it. Then I get all kinds of worked up.
