Blog Tour & Giveaway with Author Interview for Spirit of The Knight

Spirit of the Knight
by Debbie Peterson

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
She fell deeply in love with him in the early days of her childhood. And in return, she captured his heart the moment he first cast his gaze upon her...
Renowned artist, Mariah Jennings hired to paint a thirteenth-century Scottish castle, gets the shock of her life when she encounters the handsome knight who has dominated a lifetime of portraits and sketchbooks.
But Sir Cailen Braithnoch is no ordinary ghost, nor did he suffer an ordinary death. Magic of the blackest kind cast a pall over the knights centuries ago. As the ghost and his lady seek to unravel the paradox surrounding his death, black arts, otherworldly forces, and a jealous rival conspire against them.
Will those forces tear them apart, or is their love destined to last throughout the ages?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 Excerpt Two: Did he find her “bonny” then? A blush stole across her cheeks as she shook her head. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard of the creatures.” “Kelpie are water horses that are uncommonly strong. Their shiny coat comes in colors of both black and white. They have a mane and tail that never dries. No matter how long they remain on dry ground, th’ hair will drip water constantly from th’ ends. Although theirskin shines like silk in th’ sun, it feels cold as stone when ye touch it no matter how warm th’ day. These ghostly horses use trickery to keep themselves hidden from your eyes or they simply transform into any normal creature, includin’ th’ shape of a comely man or woman. ’Tis in this way they lure ye to them. And, ’tis also said that once they take ye captive, they might never let ye go back to the surface.” “That’s a very interesting story. Have you ever seen a kelpie yourself?” she asked. Cailen chuckled as he shook his head. “Nay, I cannae, in all honesty, tell ye that I have.” “So then you don’t really know if these ghostly creatures carry women off or not,” she challenged. The look he gave her quite literally stole away her breath. He turned his body fully toward her then and moved closer still. His eyes bore into hers. “Nay, but th’ danger still exists of other ghostly creatures that might."

Our Author Interview
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?
Mariah has far more spunk than what I have. I’m not so sure I would have had the courage to actually live inside the castles to which I was assigned as she did, knowing full well that a vast array of ghosts (especially the scary ones) haunted them. At least during the night hours, I would have stayed as far away as I reasonably could.
What was your inspiration behind this book?
Sir Cailen is actually a minor character in Spirit of the Revolution. Despite his brief appearance, I had so much fun writing him, I just had to write his story in a full-length novel of his own.
Why did you become a writer?
My husband gets full credit. He finally convinced me that my stories were good enough to put down on paper, submit them, and see where it led me. So far, we have five published books and counting…
As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books. Do you agree with that?
Yes, I do! I love hearing from my readers. Their comments and suggestions are very important to me and I think they know that.
Do you have a favorite author or authors?
Too many to count. However, because I have immersed myself in the classics, right now I am really enjoying the Brontë sisters, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and the like…
Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?
The three books I have published with The Wild Rose Press, although similar in title and theme are each stand alone novels. However, Van Locken’s Witch and Shadow of the Witte Wieven are character connected and I thoroughly enjoyed writing them. There is a third novel planned for this series and quite possibly, more will follow. We’ll have to see…
If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?
Because I have always loved stories of knights in rusty, dented, banged up armor, I really found myself attached to Sir Cailen in Spirit of the Knight, so… (Ahem…)
What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?
As I just said, I am really enjoying the classics. I have always wanted to read them, but somehow never found the time. Despite all the wonderful books currently being published, the classics are now at the top of my TBR list.
Do you cry when writing sad scenes?
I have to admit that I do. But then when I am writing a scene, I am living it along with my characters.
Did you have a Cover Designer?
The Wild Rose Press has a department that is responsible for creating all of their covers. We submit an information sheet giving details of the story and they take it from there. I have had a different graphic designer for each book they have published. Tamra Westberry designed the cover for Spirit of the Rebellion, Angela Anderson created the cover for Spirit of the Revolution, and Debbie Taylor is the artist that created the lovely cover for Spirit of the Knight.
The cover for Shadow of the Witte Wieven was designed by Inkspell artist, Najla Qamber, and the cover for Van Locken’s Witch (the prequel to Shadow of the Witte Wieven and my first and only Indie book), was designed by the talented artist, Shandra Kay.
If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?
I think I would like to have a long leisurely dinner with Jane Austen.
Do you re-read your favorite books?
I love to revisit my favorite books from time to time—especially when enough time has passed that it’s like reading it for the first time. I might also mention that each time I re-read a book; I discover fun details I missed in previous readings. I suppose that’s because the first time, I read very quickly to see how the story ends.
Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?
No, not really. I love to read and I love exploring different genres. So, I find that when I get bored with one, I can always switch to another.
What is the funniest book you ever read?
Princess Bride comes readily to mind. I really enjoyed the story, which, if you haven’t read it, is filled with humor and quite different than the movie.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Debbie has always had a soft spot for fairy tales, the joy of falling in love, and happily ever after endings. Stories of love and make believe filled her head for as long as she can remember. However, it was her beloved husband who encouraged, cajoled and inspired her to take up a pen and write some of them down. Her journey to published author could fill quite a few pages. However, in June of 2010, she submitted her debut novel “Spirit of the Rebellion” to her wonderful, patient, editor at The Wild Rose Press and the rest is history. She now has five published novels to her credit.
When she is not busy conjuring her latest novel, Debbie spends time with the members of her very large family, within the lovely, arid deserts of southern Nevada. She also pursues her interests in family history, mythology, and all things ancient and historic.
The tour has been awesome and this interview provided a wonderful glimpse to a fantastic author. When it comes to the classics I'm a Dickens fan, and I probably would have chosen him to sit down to dinner with (or Mark Twain), but I would love to eavesdrop on your dinner with Jane Austen, Debbie :) I loved learning more about SPIRIT OF THE KNIGHT as well, a truly engrossing and uplifting read!
Well now, aren't you just the sweetest thing! The dinner question was a toughie! So hard to narrow it down! I would love to share a meal with both Dickens and Twain. However, when it comes to talking with Edgar Allen Poe, I think I would have to make it breakfast!
