Grand Finale Blitz for Covering Home by Heidi McCahan - Inspirational Romance

A themed tour through Prism Book Tours.

We're blitzing the GRAND FINALE for
Covering Home
By Heidi McCahan

We hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit about Britt and Caleb and a peak into Covering Home. If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out now!

What do you hope readers take with them when they read your book?
The nicest thing a reader can say to an author is, “I just could not put your book down.” When someone tells me that, I’m overjoyed. So I hope readers turn the last page with a contented sigh, yet wish they had just a little more time with the characters. On a deeper level, I hope readers recognize that I write from a Christian world view and God is a God of second chances, who can redeem us from hard seasons.

Letters from Annie (Douglass) Lima - Behind the Scenes of Covering Home
Initially, I saw a call for submissions from a publisher for a story set in Tokyo, Japan that featured a bat, a bell, and an angel. For the non-writers out there, a call for submissions is something writers pay attention to because it’s the publisher’s way of telling writers what they are looking for. This particular publisher wanted a novella, which is about 25,000 words or so. As soon as I dropped Britt Bowen and Caleb Scott in the lobby of that hotel, I knew I had something special going on. Once the characters came to life on the page, I couldn’t stop at a novella. It was sooo much fun to write.

I Am A Reader - Hero Interview: Caleb Scot

Which baseball stadium is your favorite?
It’s hard to choose a favorite. Each one has unique characteristics and it depends on if you’re playing there or just enjoying a game with your family and friends. As a player, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia will always be special to me, since we won the World Series there.

My Life Loves and Passion - 10 Fun Facts About Baseball in Japan
In Covering Home, Caleb Scott tries to rebuild his pitching career in the Japan’s professional baseball league. The cultural differences between the United States and Japan are significant, both in this story and in reality. Here are ten fun facts about baseball in Japan and how they contrast with the way the game is both played and watched in the USA.

Underneath the Covers - 5 Awesome Walk-Up Songs for Writing a Must-Read Romance
In professional baseball, players often have a ‘walk-up’ song that is played in the stadium when they’re … wait for it … walking up to the batter’s box. Hence the name, walk-up song. I’ve checked out a few lists and players have chosen everything from Ellie Goulding to Rage Against the Machine. It’s a big part of baseball culture and also helps the batter mentally prepare to step up to the plate and get the job done.

Mary Terrani - My TBR Pile for Spring 2015
I’m a voracious reader. A great story captures my attention, draws me in right alongside the characters, and keeps the pages turning long past my bedtime. There aren’t enough hours in the day to write well and read everything in my To-Be-Read pile, but here are the most anticipated books (for me) this spring.

i blog 4 books - Review
I truly enjoyed this sweet, romantic story. Readers who enjoy romantic stories with a little sports action thrown in are sure to enjoy Covering Home.

Mel's Shelves - Five Reasons Why I Wouldn’t Want to Be a Female Sportscaster
In Covering Home, the heroine, Britt Bowen is a television personality turned sportscaster. While it is her dream job, she faces a few challenges, which also happen to impact her personal life. Based on the research I conducted to write this novel, here are five reasons why I feel it would be a difficult profession.

Colorimetry - Heroine Interview: Britt Bowen from Covering Home

On a date, would you prefer an adrenaline-fueled adventure or a romantic candlelit dinner?
Oh, tough question. I love the adrenaline rush of a new adventure. But since it’s a date, I’d enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt: Britt & Caleb Ride the Ferris Wheel

He turned back from the window, the lights mounted on the frame of the Ferris wheel illuminating half of his face. Even in the semi-darkness, those dark chocolate eyes studied her.
“What are you thinking about?” she asked.
They cruised upward, each incremental turn of the wheel taking them higher and higher above the lights of Tokyo. Caleb raked a hand through his hair and released a slow breath.
“I’m thinking about how I’m on the most romantic Ferris wheel ride of my life, with a beautiful woman who leaves town in a couple of days and lives on the other side of the world.”

I am such a sucker for baseball stories. Especially baseball and romance. . . . This is a good story, easy to read.

I especially appreciated how both Britt and Caleb grew as characters throughout the novel, and I enjoyed watching them forge a relationship. Fans of contemporary romance, especially those who like sports, will enjoy this novel.

Deal Sharing Aunt - My Favorite Sports Movies
Movies about baseball, however, are available 24/7. I could watch The Natural again and again. I enjoy most movies with a sports-related theme, particularly if there is an uplifting, inspirational message.
Here are my favorite movies with a strong sports theme that evoked a strong emotional response: laughter, tears, a compulsion to root for the underdog(s).

I couldn't help but to root for them, even though the odds were stacked against them. There were a few events that took me by surprise and I love being surprised. It's labeled as an inspirational read, but I didn't feel that religion played a big part.

excerpt
I cannot see. I have been straining my eyes, trying to dissect the darkness in the hopes of discovering a slither of light. I have not found any. I cannot move, not even shift my posterior in this hard rock chair. I am covered in rope from my neck down to my feet. I am not simply tied down, I am hog-tied! My neck and feet seem to be connected by a single rope. Every time I move the line tightens and digs into my skin, burning like the dickens. My neck feels as if it is going to snap. My knees feel as if they are about to pop out of their sockets. Screaming for help only brings about more pain, my tongue lies against the driest of cloths.
I guess I should be thankful for what I do get, two meals and two glasses of water a day. Let me stop lying to myself, I am not thankful. I am in this chair all day long. I am forced to relieve myself right where I sit, downright embarrassing. They have not told me what this is about. They don’t say anything. They just shove spoonful after spoonful of food in my mouth. I have no idea of the time or the day, the last day I remember was October 10th. The door opens. With it comes the coolest of breezes, the temperature must be in the 40s. Winter will be here soon. I am cold because they have taken all of my clothes. They have stripped me bare including my shoes and socks. I do not smell any food, what I do smell is cologne, very loud and pungent cologne. Do not know anyone who wears that fragrance. Not sure of who they are, they are not one of the regulars. It is someone new. New can be a good thing, maybe I can get some answers. Who am I kidding, new is not good at all. New means a change has arrived or is on the way real soon.
“What do you want with me?” “Personally I don’t want anything from you. The people who hired me, they want something.”
“They want what? Why am I here?” “You are here because they want to remind you of all the dirty deeds you have done.”
“This does not sound good at all.”
“No it does not.”

Angels with Attitude - Author Interview with Yvonne Mikell

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book ?

Silence Is Broken is a learning process for Khloe Spencer. She spent her whole life thinking one thing and she never questioned it. She just assumed that what was told to her was the truth. If I were Khloe Spencer, I would have stood my ground and postponed the wedding.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

An affluent life can have just as much deceit and danger as an ordinary life lived in a tough neighborhood.

Why did you become a writer?

I became a writer by accident. My son was ill for a while so all I can do was write. It became therapeutic for me.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

I like James Patterson, I also like Patricia Cromwell, Nickolas Sparks, Stephen King.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?

I haven’t tried that yet. To be honest with you, I can’t even imagine writing a continuing series.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

I would like to date Ian Fleming’s James Bond. The man exudes sexiness. Wouldn’t exactly sleep with him, I’d worry about STDs.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

I don’t often have spare time, but when I do read I tend to read news and fashion magazines. My favorite genres are mystery suspense and or romantic suspense. Can’t read horror anymore, too graphic and way too dark.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

Absolutely, if you don’t listen to your fan base you will eventually disappear.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Sad scenes require emotion, and the only way for me to tap into that raw emotion is to think of a personal situation that was somewhat similar to what I am writing.

Did you have a Cover Designer?

Yes, I love Amygdala Designs. I think she makes awesome book covers. In fact I fell in love with the book cover for Silence Is Broken and was quite determined to have it, so I justified having it by making Khloe Spencer’s physical appearance similar to the model.

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Orlando from Tyler Perry’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman. He is a very sweet man, perfect for a woman coming off the wheel of a mad hatter.

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

The Apostle John, writer of the Book of the Apocalypse. I would love to pick his brain. Get a first-hand account of the visions he had seen.

Do just re-read your favorite books?

Yes I do, I read the Bible periodically. And when I do, I get a different insight than what I had previously.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?

Of course, I call it sensory overload.

What is the funniest book you ever read?

In her shoes by Jennifer Weiner

about the author
clip_image008
I began my writing career five years ago by accident. My young son was sick and I could no longer work full-time as a nurse. He needed me. It was during this time that God sat me down and showed me the path that was destiny. I was destined to be a writer. In five years I wrote five novels.

Two have already been published, Getting Roosevelt–a homeowner’s nightmare and Silence Is Broken.
My son is much better now, Praise God, and I have a new career. When I am not spending time with him I like to crochet and sketch, and trying new recipes.
My stories focus on life in Philadelphia. They are fiction based loosely on fact. Philadelphia is a major city with a suburban feel. However, the lifestyle of its citizens can rival New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Intrigue and suspense coupled with mystery are the genres I write.
In addition to writing fiction, I write for the online magazine Examiner.com. My focal point is Autism/ Special Needs Children, Frugal Living, and the Philadelphia Family. I also host the book review site called Olivia’s Cup of Tea as well as the opinion paper Expression of Views.

He frowned, straining to decipher her features obscured by deep shadow. “Deepika?”

“Naa…, not Deepika.” She stepped forward into the light, a bright smile illuminating her strikingly graceful features.

His heart sank. Not Deepika.

“I am Naina—the girl you married. Goodbye, Rihaan.”

Coffee Books & Art - Sari: Traditional Costume or Functional Attire?
The image of a woman wearing a sari conjures up both the remarkable beauty of women and the exquisite artistry of textile and embroidery. The sari is a garment created from a single piece of fabric five to nine yards. Its ingenious design allows for wrapping around a woman’s body in different ways. This allows for a variety of effects: stunning traditional gown, alluring eveningwear, or simple utilitarian work attire.

Mythical Books - Sensual Spices & Excerpt
It is one thing to prepare food for ourselves because we need to eat. It’s mealtime, we’re hungry, what do we have in the cupboard? But it is a whole different thing to cook a special dish or an entire feast because we want to shower someone we love with a caring gesture.

Rihaan stepped into the tiny kitchen to find it dwarfed by his lanky frame. Folding wiry arms across his chest, he leaned gingerly against the wall and watched as she went about her task in a haphazard fashion. Her attempts at putting on a show of neatness and method were failing hopelessly.

Rihaan gave a wry shrug.

“Okay, then let your mom choose your wife and live happily ever after with my blessings,” Rudy said, grinning widely.

“No! Never! I can’t!”

It's like I can't describe it- but The Accidental Wife had me HOOKED! I loved how Naina and Rihaan slowly fell for each other, how things kept happening thatnmept them from being together, it was so realistic, how they let their pride get in the way of things, how they decided to stick to their stubborn ideals despite the obvious love and desire they were feeling! . . . All I can say is- for an insight into Indian Society- READ THIS!

Sarah's StoryLines - Indian Elephants + Excerpt
Inside it, she found some clothes just like the oversized ones hanging in the closet. They were of no interest to her. What caught her eye was a beautiful silk sari, tie-dyed in a rainbow of colors with decorated elephants marching along the borders and tiny shiny mirrors that caught the light and sparkled like diamonds. She flung it around her neck like a shawl and felt deeply comforted by the strong fragrance of sandalwood.

He soon found himself engaged in the activity of browsing through the huge databanks of boys and girls seeking potential life partners. He was shocked at the variety he saw and equally surprised at the way they presented themselves, especially how particular they were about the kind of mate they wanted. It was just as Rudy had described—a huge marriage market.

Finally after having amused himself for a few hours, Rihaan fell asleep thinking there might just be a solution to all his problems.

“I’m getting married. Time to celebrate.”

His mother, as he’d guessed she would, immediately dismissed him. “Rihaan, if that’s supposed to be a joke then it is a very bad one.”

“Maa… I’m telling the truth,” Rihaan said. “I’ve found a suitable girl and the deal is set.”

alwaysjoart - Heroines in Literature and Real Life & Excerpt

Who is your favorite heroine? With so many incredible women in literature who are often trailblazers for women in real life, it is hard to choose just one.

He emerged a few minutes later with a Wonder Woman pin that he fastened to her coat.

Mary Terrani - Review
The Accidental Wife had me hooked from the start. I love reading about different cultures and this is a perfect example of it. The depth of the characters and how real they came across had me wanting more. I couldn’t put it down.

Beck Valley Books - The Tradition Behind Arranged Marriages
Marriage is a sacred relationship. It is not just the meeting of two individuals but of two souls. Its purpose is for the continuation of family and to practice one’s Dharma. There is no concept of divorce. Once married, a couple is wedded for life. Divorce is a modern concept introduced through the Hindu Marriage Act of India.

Some accidents are meant to happen…

Dr. Rihaan Mehta is a brilliant young neurosurgeon who has no inclination for love or marriage. According to him wives and girlfriends are annoying accessories that one can do without. But when his mother dangles the sword over his head in classic Bollywood style, he succumbs, and sets out in search of a bride who would fit his 'requirements'. But can Rihaan deal with what he gets instead?
