ME: Then don’t!
Impassioned:  How different a feeling it is to stay on the main stream and then say it here.
ME: Of course. On the main stream, I just thought it was chatter without any meaning.
Impassioned: It was never mere chat, and still isn’t. Only you understood it now.
I smiled.
ME: Yes, I guess so.
Impassioned: Onaiza!
ME: Yes?
Impassioned: Asher!
Oh!! He was finally telling me his name. Wow! Just wow!

about the author
imageAs a thirteen year old teenager, Xunaira J. aspired to be an author someday. From short stories to novellas, she has written them all but as an adult now, she has published two short stories and is now aiming to publish her first Novel, Before Time, scheduled for November release. Apart from that, when she's not working on her current literary project, she loves developing mobile applications and studies as a software engineer.

Author Interview

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?

I would’ve tried to reshape the life of my protagonist.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

There are many love stories where the male protagonist meets the female protagonist and love happens but we have never read about on-line relationships, chat-room friendships where two strangers meet and fall in love. I want to write about one such story that is unique in it’s own way. That’s how came up with Before Time.

Why did you become a writer?

Well, writing was always my passion since grade school. I usually participated in essay writing competitions at school and later on, when I entered university my teachers motivated me into writing a story. Since then, my pen just flows over the paper with my stories.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

I have numerous favorite authors but my favorite ones are Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Jude Deveraux, Allie Gail and Stephanie Meyer.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?

Yes, I always prefer writing series as it gives me a chance to keep my characters alive for a little longer.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

I’m a typical Romanceaholic so I prefer romantic stories. I spent my free time mainly on Wattpad, reading stories of unpublished aspiring authors.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

I agree. I prefer listening to my reader’s opinions and comments on my stories.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Emotions are an author’s strongest weapon and it happens that sometimes when you are well into your story, tears do come. I cry a lot when I read sad scene so definitely whenever I write sad scenes, I do cry sometimes.

Did you have a Cover Designer?

Yeah, I have a cover Designer.

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Mathew Farrell from Paradise by Judith McNaught

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

Judith McNaught

excerpt
When I finally hit the last room in a long row of rooms I see a guy sitting there looking bored and staring at two fast food containers in front of him on the table. He glances up at me when I enter. The first thing I notice is his piercing green eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen eyes that green on a human being that weren’t Photoshopped The second thing I notice is his messy, light brown hair. It doesn’t look like it’s been combed it in a week. It makes me wonder if it’s some new hair trend or if he just doesn’t bother to style it. Not that I have too much room to talk when it comes to hair. My curly red mop has been the bane of my existence since I was a kid. About the only thing I can ever do with it is pull it back into a pony tail. “Sedona?” I nod. “Have a seat.” He points to the chair right next to him. I remember Lewis’s warning and take a seat across the table instead. I want to be as close to the door as possible. The guy is big and muscular and much more intimidating than I imagined he’d be. My heart is thumping in my chest because his size and rough demeanor are making me nervous. When he pushes one of the fast food containers in my direction I cringe. I rarely eat fast food and when I do it’s from Just Veggies, an organic vegetarian place near campus. He doesn’t hesitate to open his container and take a bite of the messy burger that’s dripping some kind of white sauce all over his pile of fries. My stomach turns in response. “I bought you a burger.” He points to the second container he’s pushed in my direction. “Ambrose scheduled our sessions during lunch.” I make a point of pushing the container back over to him. “No thank you.” He frowns. “It’s from Frankie’s. Everybody loves Frankie’s burgers.” “Clearly not everyone.” His brows knit like he can’t believe I refused the food he bought. “You don’t want it?” He actually sounds hurt. “No, I don’t.” “Why?” I lift my book bag from the ground and point to one of the many political cause buttons I have covering the knitted tote my mom made for me. He barely acknowledges it. “What is that supposed to mean?” Now I’m the one who’s frowning. “Meat is murder. It’s a slogan. It means that I don’t eat animal flesh.” “You’re one of those vegans?” He doesn’t bother hiding the condescension in his voice. “Technically I’m a vegetarian. I eat free range, organic dairy products.” “Fine. I’ll eat the burger.” He glares at me as he opens the second container and takes a huge bite of the burger. I’m appalled until I notice that he slyly pushes both containers away and doesn’t take another bite of either burger. “I guess I should have brought an apple for the teacher.” “Only if it’s organic. And I’m not actually a teacher. I’m a tutor.” We both stare at each other for a long moment. Awkward does not even begin to describe our pairing. We’re like two people from different planets trying to communicate when we don’t speak each other’s languages. I remove a slip of paper from my bag. “Mr. Ambrose gave me your schedule of classes for the semester. You’re taking Film Appreciation, The History of Jazz, Advanced Yoga and Stress Management. What’s your major?” He shrugs. “Undeclared right now. But I’ll probably go with Sports Management.” “So these are Gen Ed classes?” He cocks his head and looks confused. “General Education classes,” I clarify. “Elective classes you need to take to fulfill requirements that aren’t directly related to your major.” “I guess so.” I’m a little disturbed by his lackadaisical attitude, but I let it go for the moment. We’re clearly not going to be able to develop much of a rapport so maybe it’s best just to get down to business. “We’re just handed a class schedule,” he clarifies. “Assigned classes. We don’t pick them ourselves.” “And they assigned you the History of Jazz? That’s the class that you’re having trouble with?” “The dude who was supposed to teach the class croaked and they got this new chick who apparently doesn’t like basketball.” There is so much wrong with his statement I don’t even know where to begin. “Might I suggest that you call your professors either professor or doctor and not chick.” I bristle at my own use of the derogatory word, but I continue, “And what does her not liking basketball have to do with your performance in the class.” At this he gives me a sly smile. “Let’s just say she’s not willing to play ball the way the other professors are.” I’m not sure exactly what he means by that, but there seems to be some kind of sports reference that is lost on me. “So you’re saying your other classes are going well and you’re just having trouble with the one class, History of Jazz?” He leans back in his chair and eyes me for a few seconds before he nods. I don’t like when he looks at me like that. It’s like he’s examining some weird, new specimen and trying to make sense of it. “All of my other teachers are huge basketball fans and they know I’m the in the starting lineup. I’m not sure what the jazz goddess’s problem is.” I take in a deep breath before I say something that’s sure to get me fired. “Why don’t we start by calling her Dr. Fisher? I think that might help. And why do you think she has a problem?” “She doesn’t like basketball. That’s not normal. Everybody loves basketball. This entire campus lives and breathes the sport.” “I don’t love basketball. I don’t even like it. Not even a little bit.” He actually looks stunned for a moment. Like I slapped him. Then he regains his cocky composure. “You’re one weird chick,” he mutters almost to himself, but still loud enough that I can hear him. “Excuse me?” I say even though I heard him. I just didn’t like having an insult hurled at me by someone I don’t even know. “You. Are. One. Weird. Chick.” His words are slower and louder as if I didn’t hear him the first time. “I actually heard what you said. I just didn’t like it.” A smug smirk appears on his face that I would love to slap right off if I could. I continue. “In case you haven’t noticed I’m not a bird I’m a human being. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t refer to me as a chick.” He bites his bottom lip as if he’s actually giving it some thought. Then he says, “You’re one weird woman. Is that better?” “I’m not sure why you have to bring gender into the equation at all. Why not just call me a weird person?” That makes him laugh. “You don’t care that I think you’re weird. You just don’t want me to call you a chick?” “I’ve been weird my whole life. I’m used to it.” “At least you’re willing to own it.” “So did you bring your textbook with you or are you just going to spend the next ninety minutes taunting me?” “I kind of like taunting you.”

Author Interview

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?

Nothing! I was a study hall monitor and tutor for basketball players when I was a graduate student. I didn’t date any of the players, but I did have concerns about some of the players who were not prepared for college-level work.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

When I read about the UNC cheating scandal it struck a chord with me. One of the jobs I had when I was in graduate school for my Master’s degree was as a study hall monitor and tutor for our university’s athletes, most of whom were basketball players. At the time I noticed a number of the students with whom I worked were underprepared for college-level work (and some even had issues with basic literacy). I was shocked to learn that now twenty-five years later, the problems with college athletes still exists. I thought it would make an excellent underlying story for a romance novel.

Why did you become a writer?

I love to make up stories and live in other worlds for a while.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

One of my favorites is Lewis Carroll, who is most famous for Alice in Wonderland.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?

Readers seem to like books in a series. Whenever I write a standalone novel readers always ask if I’ll write more about the characters.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

I would date Kian Kavanagh from my Fire on Ice hockey series. I think he’s the character I’ve written who is most like my husband.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

I read all types of books, but I tend to enjoy romance novels the best.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

I have written books on the suggestion of fans. And I do ask fans to help me decide on certain aspects of my books.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

All the time!

Did you have a Cover Designer?

I use a number of different cover designers, as well as my husband, who spent years as a graphic designer.

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Max Elliot. He’s made guest appearances in my Savannah Young Wilde Riders series as well as Another Mazzy Monday. He will have his own paranormal romantic comedy series in a few months (written by Savannah Young and Dakota Madison). His character is inspired by the actor Ryan Hansen, who played Dick Casablancas in Veronica Mars and Play It Again, Dick.

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

Most of my favorite authors are dead!

Do just re-read your favorite books?

I don’t re-read many books. Beautiful Disaster was one exception. I read it four times.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?

No.

What is the funniest book you ever read?

The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero. It’s about the making of The Room.

blurb

Book one in the Haven Security series
Two unforeseen moments in time— One brings them together—the other is a danger so real it could tear them apart.
Antoinette ‘Toni’ Grimaldi prefers to keep out of the spotlight, blend in with the crowd and experience life the same as the bulk of the population. Being a mining magnate’s daughter is a difficult persona for her to uphold. She just doesn’t fit in with high society standards, always managing to say something inappropriate or trip over her own feet at the worst possible moment, resulting in that look of disappointment and embarrassment her parents inevitably wear whenever she’s around.
Meeting a handsome stranger who comes to her rescue and asks her out on a date is so much more than Toni could have ever hoped for on her dream holiday—one she is surprised her parents have even permitted her to take alone. Her fairy-tale moment is short-lived, though, when Toni discovers the stranger has been hired by her family to follow her every move—under the guise of keeping her safe.
Jason finds he is drawn to Antoinette. She is nothing at all like the socialite he was expecting to shadow around London’s nightclubs. After an awkward first meeting, he convinces Toni that there is more to his interest in her than just as her bodyguard. To his surprise, his attraction for the soft-spoken, thoughtful woman grows, despite his usual reluctance to commit to any kind of relationship.
Then a disaster at one of the family-owned mines and a string of death threats force Toni to return home, and her need for a bodyguard becomes a life and death reality.

excerpt
This thing with Toni—whatever it was—was different. Jason wanted more than just a quick romp in the sack. He wanted to hold her in his arms as they fell asleep, after a round or two of some mind-blowing sex, of course. Jason wanted Toni something bad, wanted to feel his cock push between the folds of her pussy. He wanted to hear Toni call his name as he licked and sucked her clit and drove her wild, until the resulting orgasm left her body quivering with satisfaction. Then he would enter her slowly, savouring every new sensation as his cock found space between those slick, wet walls of her cunt. Even though he wanted this nearly more than he wanted his next breath, Jason had walked Toni to her door, and, after organising a time for them to meet in the morning, he had kissed her lips gently then walked away. It had taken every ounce of his self-control to leave her there with her eyes burning a hole in his back as she’d watched him go.
As a result, Jason now sat in his room, calling himself every name under the sun for being such an idiot and not taking what he’d wanted—Toni naked and lying stretched out on his bed. All the while he ruthlessly pumped his hand up and down his cock to try to give his balls some relief.
He needed to clear his head so he could email the daily report of Toni’s movements to Nathan. Well, as detailed as he could without giving away the fact that he’d blown his cover and was now lying in bed imagining all the ways he wanted to pleasure the daughter of the firm’s biggest client. Yep, Nathan really did not need to read about any of that—his mate would go ballistic.
* * * *
Toni couldn’t sleep. Looking at the clock again and finding out that only a few minutes had passed, she kicked the sheets off her legs with exasperation. Her body was on fire, the sheets too heavy against her skin. She’d flung off her nightie twenty minutes ago as the fabric had abraded her sensitive nipples—nipples that had remained hard and wanting—or, more precisely, wanting Jason ever since he had left her at her door. This is ridiculous. I should just go bang on his door until he lets me in and gives me an orgasm so I can bloody sleep. What’s the point of knowing he’s next door if I can’t take advantage of it? It had been a bit of a shock at first when Jason had admitted to being in the room next to hers all along. Toni was convinced she had just invented a new form of torture.
She wanted to feel Jason’s hands on her body so badly it hurt. As she unconsciously ground her pelvis against the mattress, imagining how it would feel to have his lips around her nipples with his hard body, heavy and warm, over hers, she’d been close to orgasm. It had taken Toni a few seconds to realise what she was doing. She’d been so busy imagining what it would feel like to have Jason touching her, she had lost control. “Aaargh,” Toni groaned again as she punched the pillow repeatedly with her clenched fist. I’m going to look delightful in the morning, bags on bags, a bloody set of luggage under my eyes if I don’t get some sleep.
The bed linen felt like it was lined with barbed wire and ultimately won the war declared on her sexually frustrated and sensitised skin. She had suffered enough. Toni got up from the bed, then shook her head as she looked at the tangle of twisted sheets she’d left behind. She found her dressing gown and slipped her arms through the sleeve openings. The light and delicate fabric of her luxurious covering might as well have been a sheet of sandpaper rubbing against her body. After tucking her room key into the pocket, she quietly opened her door, just enough to poke her head outside and check that the corridor was clear. Finding it empty and not hearing any sound of approaching footsteps, Toni pulled the door closed behind her until the sound of the lock clicked into place—a sound that in the still of the corridor seemed like the boom of a bass drum being struck.
She took the three steps that separated her room from Jason’s and, summoning up all the bravado she could muster, Toni knocked on the door. It was really more like a brush of her fingertips against the two inch thick wood, but it was the best she could manage, given that she was already trying to quell the sound of her heart pumping so loudly that it was probably making enough noise to wake the entire hotel.
For one short moment Toni imagined a squad of firemen, fully suited up, with hoses and axes at the ready, racing down the hallway searching for the source of the loud thumping horn that sounded like an alarm but was in fact her heart beating. If he doesn’t open the door by the time I count to ten, I’m going back to my room and will just have to deal with the sexual tension I’m feeling myself… One… Two…

Angels with Attitude - Author Interview

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?

I think I might have been more thankful for the privileged upbringing Toni received and in return used it in a positive way. Vague Huh! ;) I guess rebelling against your parents is part of growing up.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

I based the first meeting of my hero and heroine on a real life event. What happens to Toni happened to my son while we were holidaying in London. I really wanted to use the experience but couldn’t see a way it would fit into my League of Love, sports series. I love an ex-soldier turned bodyguard book so thought ‘hey, why don’t I give it a go?’ Jason evolved quickly and was more than happy to tell me the story.

Why did you become a writer?

I became a writer for myself, first. When I was transcribing the insistent voice in my head of Brodie James, telling me Caitlin’s story, I never contemplated getting the book published. It was two years later that I worked up the nerve to submit a manuscript to a publisher. Luckily for me Totally Bound accepted my manuscript and then contracted the series.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

Many...so many! My top ‘must buy immediately’ authors are N.j. Walters, Lara Adrian, Laurann Dohner and H.K. Carlton.
Do you like to write your books in a continuing series? Yes, as in my reading I’m a series junkie. I love checking up on past characters and seeing how they are getting on. Usually as I’m writing, a secondary character makes their presence known and informs me they have book too.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

This question gets asked a lot and to be honest I do feel a little uncomfortable, my characters are a bit like my children. Get my point. Eww! My favorite character is JT from Mandy’s He-man. He makes regular appearances in my head and usually has something funny to say or a smart remark about another hero. He is definitely an alpha.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

I used to read a wide variety of books; horror, contemporary, mysteries, biographies but now I stick to romance. With so many great authors and books available, why not. My TBR list is massive.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

I agree that having a connection with your readers is important. Before I had any books published I sent a few emails to authors congratulating them on their wonderful books. It was always very exciting to receive a reply. I love hearing from readers that have enjoyed my books. I wouldn’t specifically target a book to an audience though mainly because I can only write what my voices tell me to.

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Yes. As I said my characters are like my children, when they are in pain so am I.

Did you have a Cover Designer?

Yes, Posh Gosh from Totally Bound Publishing. I think she is a real artist, I love my covers.

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Shamus from The Seduction of Shamus O’Rourke by N.j. Walters. I have always had a crush on Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For many years I had a poster of David Boreanaz in my laundry. Hubby is very tolerant. He eventually renovated the laundry and the poster never went back. Hmmm, I wonder where it is.

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

Easy question to answer – N.j. Walters. I have been stalking her for many years ;)

Do just re-read your favorite books?

No, I read lots of new releases. I have a pre-order compulsion. I do re-read my favorites though. If I’m feeling a bit down I know which ones will cheer me up.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?

Sometimes but with such an extensive TBR list I can usually find something that interests me. If I’m really struggling I fall back on past favs.

What is the funniest book you ever read?

I’ve thought about this question for ages and honestly can’t come up with an answer. Maybe I can get back to you on this one

about the author
image
A few years ago when the sensual, male voices in Australian-born Donna Gallagher’s head became too loud to ignore there were only two options available – check herself into a mental hospital or put pen to paper and write.

A voracious reader and avid sports fan it was no surprise that her first seven books were based around her beloved sport of rugby league. A former WAG Donna had plenty of personal experience to fall back on as she created her fictional team of hunky Aussie sports heroes and the women that won their hearts.
A double finalist in the Australian Romance Readers Awards 2013 for Favourite Erotic Romance with her books Emily’s Cowboy and Sarah’s Soldier, Donna was also thrilled to be named a finalist for ARRA’s Favourite Australian Romance Author and Favourite Continuing Romance Series.
While sports romances will always hold a special place in her heart Donna has now expanded her genres to include romantic suspense with her soon to be released Haven Security series and a sexy, short, contemporary erotic story A Fruitful Intimacy set on a tropical island in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Her years as a WAG may not have lived up to the happy-ever-after she creates in her books but a second shot at love has proven a winner. Donna is now happily married to her very own hero. She lives a ten minute drive from Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge and Opera House with her three grown sons, two turtles and a very spoilt mini dachshund called Toni.
