Our Review
Loved it
5 stars

What a cute story about heartbreak and forgiveness with a possible bright future for a couple who had made past mistakes and were working to over overcome them. This was a first time author for me and I really enjoyed her story.

This was a tragic story where two young people who loved one another in the past but neither  fought for there relationship they might have had.Leaving them both miserable and apart for 20 odd years separate and apart neither really knowing there true feeling for one another.

Love the characters of this story the were very engaging from the very first pages of the story making it a page turner for me read the book in just a few hours.

Normally I have a favorite character that a pick out and mine would have to be Brent. He was just a loving and passionate person not only toward people but, the horses he cared for.Turns out Brent is a cowboy with a touch of a colorful past that he has been trying to make amends for .The man was a emotional wreck fighting to stay  and on the right path. His past choices in his life have made him very unhappy leading him down a dark and dangerous path but, now  he is in recovery and things are starting to look brighter when he opens a horse refuge farm. You really felt the turmoil that he was going through especially the thoughts he had of ones self.Meeting Casey again after so many years apart was probably one of the most happiness moments in his life he fell in love all over again.

Casey on the other hand was a little bit of a hellcat. My first impression of her when she was sitting on the porch drinking a beer and starring at the roofer guy having wicked fantasies of what she would like to do him was I really am going to like her..LoL

What happens when the fantasy man you are thinking about turns out to be the past love of your life ?
Hum.... more wicked things....

Casey has come back to her home town after divorcing her husband  to lick her wounds and start on a brighter future.Working a job she hates but it pays the bills she needs to look to he future to make herself happy  once again.Casey has a trouble past also the scars are there from her father being a drunk and and abuser coupled with her failure of being wife and mother she is being pretty hard on herself taking all the blame. You feel the pain she is in  her hubby was just a jerk and he is the one who should be taking the blame for his own mistakes instead of making her feel the guilty party.

We have to mention Casey mom too she was just the sweetest thing...Just loved her !

Just loved the story it was emotional ride. Both just wanted to forget and let go of the past and  work on there second chance at happiness.Loved being on Casey and Brent's ride of falling in love all over again and its ups and downs.I loved Casey sense of humor she was a pip.Brent on the other hand was one sexy cowboy who Knows how to burn up the sheets. There were some very hot sex scene's going on in this story that were filled with fun laughter  making them even hotter. That Casey was one lucky girl! The book was filled with fun ,laughter the pain of overcoming one's past throwing in a little bit of intrigue and mystery thrown into the pot.

One of my favorite scenes throughout the book was how Brent was always looking at Casey's shoes and getting a wicked grin on his face.It always made me laugh..

Will definitely be adding this author to my list of must read authors! Looking forward to see what she creates next....

Excerpt-

Appropriate for all audiences:
When he came back around to the front of the barn, she was sitting on top of a bale of hay, holding up a brown paper back with a grease stain on the bottom.  Mooch, traitor that he was, perched at her feet, looking up at her adoringly, waiting for her to drop the bag.
“Mama sent some chicken and biscuits.”
He grunted an acknowledgment, and pulled his hat lower over his eyes so he didn’t have to see the pain in hers.
She stood, setting the bag down next to her, and sauntered over to the stall where he was spreading fresh straw.
“What’s wrong?”
He couldn’t think of the words to say to her.  Everything that came to mind was wrong, and Brent knew that there was no way to have this conversation without hurting her.  But he had to, or else he would end up hurting her worse in the long run.
As he kicked straw around the floor of the stall, he knew he was being stupid.  For the last two weeks, all he’d talked about was how badly he wanted her to stay with him.  And now he was about to do this…
He finally stopped when she said, “Brent.  You’re scaring me.  Is this about me not being able to have kids?”
“No.”  Brent brushed past her to go to the feed room.  Rattling the bucket brought in the mare, an enormous equine with a shaggy coat and bones showing through loose skin.  She followed him into the stall, as he emptied the bucket into her feed trough, and then started pulling the injections from his pockets and preparing them silently.
When he had the first one ready, he finally got the guts to raise his head and look at Casey and deliver the brilliant line he’d spent the past ten minutes coming up with.  “I need to think about some stuff.”
Her mouth dropped, and Brent lowered his head to the mare’s shoulder.  While she was distracted, eating, he pinched some skin between his gloved fingers and stuck in the needle, pushing the plunger.
Brent had no idea what happened next.  All he was aware of was a swift intake of breath, before he saw a wall of brown crush into him, then a jumble of whinnies, a frantic woof, a shrill scream, some clatters, then hoofs aimed at his chest, before blackness took over.

A Little Racier:
He rolled over on his side, spooning Casey against his chest, holding her close.  She could feel him inhale deeply, and exhale with repletion.
“This hay is itchy,” she remarked as he sucked on her shoulder.  She was pretty sure he was leaving hickeys.
“Is it?” He mumbled, distractedly.
“Yes, it is.  Are you done out here for today?  Or can we go inside?”
“Nope.  I’ve still got some things to do out here.” He moved his mouth lower on her back and started sucking a new spot.
“Like what?”
“Well, I intended to have sex with you on that barrel, but somehow got distracted.  So, sex on the barrel is first on my agenda.  After that there’s a spot in the hayloft I wanted to try out.”  He rubbed his stubble against her back as he talked and she arched against it.  “Then there’s my office…I’ve been imagining some really amazing things in my office.  And the tack room…”  He thrust his newly erect again penis against her rear.  “Do you have any idea how much leather there is in the tack room?  Oh god, all that leather.”  He started to stand, dragging her with him.  “I want to start in the tack room.”
She was suddenly reminded of a child, and laughed out loud at him.  “Is sex all you think about?”
He froze and his face fell, as he looked to the ceiling in thought.  Finally, his eyes met hers again.  “Not always.  There’s times when I just imagine you naked.”  He scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder impervious to her squeals before he stalked towards the tack room and kicked the door open.

Our Author Interview

What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book?

If I were Brent, I would have opened up to Casey and told her the truth, instead of letting her find out for herself and feel like he’d been keeping secrets.  Of course, if he’d done that, most of the conflict in the first part of the book would be gone, and it would be far less interesting, wouldn’t it?

What was your inspiration behind this book?

My inspiration comes from a variety of places, but addiction holds a place close to my heart.  I’d decided to write a book a long time ago with a main character fighting it.  While researching it, I found a great blog by a recovering addict cowboy, http://cowboyproject.com/.  I’ve sort of gotten to know him (as well as you can know anybody online) and he’s a really nice guy.

Why did you become a writer?

I’ve been writing my entire life, journals, bad poetry, short stories, etc.  I decided to start writing novels when I quit teaching and needed something to do with my time.

Do you have a favorite author or authors?

I have several.  Right now, I fangirl over NJ Frost and Liliana Hart.  I’m doing an event with Liliana in Houston in August and am ridiculously excited about it.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series?

I do, but I like for them to be stand-alones.  I don’t like cliff-hangers.  My Mistake is in a series, but it’s a series in that all the books take place in the same town, and some characters make appearances in other books, but they don’t necessarily need to be read in order.
If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?
Cyrano DeBergerac.  Romance is everything, and he’s romance personified.

What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time?

I mostly read what I write, Contemporary Romance or Paranormal Romance.  But my reading tastes are quite eclectic, and I will read just about anything.

As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that?

Absolutely.  I think it’s very important to make an effort to connect.  It’s difficult at times, but integral.  It helps bring the books to life, doesn’t it, to know they’re written by real people?

Do you cry when writing sad scenes?

Not unless I’m suffering from PMS.  Then everything makes me cry.

Did you have a Cover Designer?

Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush?

Logan from Tall, Tatted and Tempting, by Tammy Faulkner, at the moment.

If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be?

Either NJ Frost or Belle Aurora.  One is from the UK, and the other Australia.  I would love to just listen to their accents while I eat.

Do just re-read your favorite books?

I have a couple that I’ve re-read, Lisa See’s Snow Flower and the Secret Fan comes to mind.  But typically, I don’t re-read.  There are too many new books and unread titles on my kindle to spend time on something I’ve already read.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do?

What’s a reading slump?  Haha.  No.  That’s never been a problem for me.

What is the funniest book you ever read?

Zak Love’s Sex in the Title.  That was some really funny shit.
