About Book

Jewel has always been able to get the guy she wanted. The starting jock on the football team, the team captain on the basketball team, and the lead swimmer on the swim team. Problem is, she didn’t find them the least bit exciting. Was she cold or a she-wolf for guys? Colin thought so, and he’d do anything to bring her down a peg or two. When these two collide on the sandy beach during their mixed up summer vacation, sparks fly, making this a summer neither will forget.

My Thoughts

As this book started I am thinking more and more how very much I didn’t like Jewel, I wasn’t liking how she was treating the guys, ripping their hearts apart, just didn’t sound like the kind of person I would want to be friends with. Jewel reminded me of a friend I had in school that went through guys like candy. Pop it in, give it a taste, spit it out and walk away. I used to shake my head and think what is wrong with her. Then I learned a few things about her life and realized why she did what she did. I am not saying I think what she did was right I just understood better. And after learning what was going on in Jewels world I understood why she did the things she did. Both my friend and Jewel sure did leave a trail of broken confused men in their wake.

Jewel’s mom and dad are real winners – wow someone needs to slap them with a few wet noodles – how about a serious wake up call – get your acts together. LOL Mom is on soon to be hubby #4 and dad is in another country with a model type wife and not a minute to spare. How is a girl supposed to grow up understanding what a real relationship is all about?
And then there is Colin – wavy hair, good looking, broad chest, smokin’ hot – but didn’t anyone ever tell him the way to get a girls attention is NOT a volleyball to the head. :P
As time goes on Jewel and Colin have this love-hate tug-o-war relationship that at times is absolutely funny and had me busting out laughing and causing people to stare at me like I needed a straight jacket.
This book really has such a good story line, several actually, like appearances are not always what they seem. Never judge a book by its cover. Rumors are just that and get to know someone and find the truth for yourself. And so many more.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. I was laughing at times, at other times it broke my heart to see the struggle between Colin and Jewel. The things going on in the back ground at school that Jewel had no idea was going on yet was the central part of it all. I am cheering Colin on and pushing Jewel mentally to give him a chance, open your eyes girl. And then turning around and yelling at Colin about being honest no matter what and taking a stand.
Now here I am reading along yelling at Jewel when she breaks it off with Colin after he tries to tell her what has been going on behind her back never realizing he isn’t those guys and never was a part of it. Then I am crying when Colin finally confronts her and she finally listens and he gives her back the amazing necklace he had made her. I so love kiss and make up scenes.
BUT I SO DID NOT LIKE THE END – I mean literally – KISS, MAKE UP – The End!!!!
HELLO – - I WANT MORE!!!!!
Great book I really can not wait to see what is next from this author.

Excerpt One

Sitting back, I try to relax again, but I’m hyped and overly aware of all the sounds around me. Cory comes through the glass sliding doors, and offers me a three finger Macallan then settles down into the lounge chair next to me with a drink of his own. There are some things in this world that you cannot skimp on, and a good scotch is one of them. “Whoa, whose big ride? Wasn’t there five minutes ago,” Cory states. “Yeah, seems like we’ll be having a neighbor for a couple of days,” I say nonchalantly. “Neighbor? As in one?” Cory asks. “Yeah, she’s a cute lil’ thang,” I drawl, laughing to myself. You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the boy. “Hmmm, maybe she’ll want to come over later for our get together with the girls from this morning,” Cory grins to himself. I let out a laugh, dividing my focus between Cory and the house across the drive path. “You trying to woo them with your cooking?” “Hey! A lady has to appreciate a man who can grill, right?” Cory asks, taking of a sip of his scotch. “Yes, a lady would, but those girls…” I raise a questioning eyebrow at my brother. Cory laughs. “Yeah, okay, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what they have to offer me.” “Okay, just don’t appreciate them so much that you can’t catch some waves tomorrow.” My brother and I have two different ideas of this vacation. Cory wants to meet as many girls as he can, I just want to catch as many waves and adrenaline rushes as I can. “I won’t,” Cory chuckles and leans back in his chair facing the ocean. “Hey! You okay man? You’ve been quiet, and let me tap into what mom would say, umm, ‘reflective’, lately. What’s going on in that head of ours?” I laugh at my brother’s concern. Cory and our mom have always been close. Cory is a year younger and is a bigger mama’s boy than I am. Whenever we’re looking out for each other, we always worry through our mom’s eyes, so to speak. “Yeah, I’m fine, just finishing up school is stressful and then next year, you know.” “Man, you just need a girl!” Cory states. This is not uncommon for him to say. It’s his answer for everything. Bored? Get with a girl. Going to get food? Get it with a girl. Going to buy toilet paper? Get it with a girl. Some part of Cory just doesn’t want to grow up, it seems.

 Book Description

When her father drags her to a new life in Wyoming, Aspen Brand doesn’t expect to fall for a cowboy named Kyle Thacker—but she does. At seventeen, Aspen and Kyle share unexpected ground: guitar, running, physics. And guilt. Aspen blames herself for her mother’s car accident, while Kyle can’t find a way past his brother’s suicide. On their first date they open up to each other, forging an unbreakable bond between them. But Kyle has spent two years living with a vicious secret—one his ex-girlfriend will do anything to protect—and sharing his truth with Aspen makes her a target. Now if Kyle is to be her love story, Aspen must first win the fight of her life. About the Author Mechelle Morrison loves language--she's always wished she could speak and write them all. She lives for chocolate, lazy summer days, spontaneously funny things . . . and family. She's sort of scared of dogs. When she's not reading or writing or wandering the world, she can be found in her backyard in Utah with her husband, their daughter and the bevy of quail that live behind their garage. If she didn't write she'd make stop-motion animation shorts. So she does that anyway.

 EXCERPT 1

It’s been four weeks since I poured my heart against Kyle’s sleeve.  Four weeks since we gave each other a full body hug on the front porch of my house.  That day had me feeling so good about things: about Mom and life, about going on.  But since that day Kyle and I have hardly spoken.
I don’t get it.

He frowns through class, with his head down.  No more poetic insights.  No thoughtful answers.  When we cross paths in the hall he says, “Hey Aspen,” and keeps on walking, pretending he can’t see the questions burning in my eyes.  It’s pathetic, but the more he ignores me the more I listen to his music on YouTube, feeling stupid for telling him about my mom, stupid for falling apart in his arms.  I hate how inside I seem broken, like telling Kyle the truth has come back to mock me, shredding my new-found happiness with the same precision a magpie exhibits for road kill.
