My Wicked Marquess (Inferno Club, #1)My Wicked Marquess by Gaelen Foley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

To restore family honor the Marquess of Rotherstone faces his most dangerous mission—finding the perfect bride and wed a beget and heir. But that is not the easiest task as he as know to belong to the Inferno Club which is a scandalous society of men no proper young lady would acknowledge. The Marquess of Rotherstone has decided it's time to restore the family's good name.He wants to find and  marry a lady of impeccable beauty and breeding, whose reputation is spotless and has enlisted his solicitor to find him some candidates .Someone quite unlike Daphne Starling she's temptingly lovely as she has made the list of candidates but she was recently involved in a scandal with a suitor and leaves her reputation on the verge of ruin and her ex-suitor is not helping with the horrible things her is putting out about her. Daphne is becoming known as a Jilter.Max cannot resist her a challenge of proving London's gossips wrong. He would do anything to win her hand and he has decided he wants her for himself and nothing with stand in his way. We first meets her in a bad part of town where she is visiting and orphanage in a very bad part of town where brothels and known criminals lurk. He saves her from a horrible fate posing as a drunken Lord to advert disaster.Max later engages a invitation to a ball in order to seek out Daphne but rumors a flying about him and it is being put about that he is known as the Demon Marquess but that does not stop her and she is intrigued by Max.Max is intrigued also so comes of with the perfect plan to win Daphne he proposes an engagement between himself and Daphne to he father to save her reputation and help improve her fathers fiances. But the head strong beauty does not want a husband even through Max tempts seduction that she is more than will to follow. Max is in for the ride of his life and perusing a wife that is not what he has in mind . Sudden twists and turns take place while courting Daphne as Max has a secret past he works for the government undercover and the Inferno Club is only a front for his friends and himself. Danger is lurking and he will do everything to protect his bride to be but, she is making it impossible as she learns his secrets and ventures out on her own to figure out Max's best kept secret.Overall I liked this book but I found Daphne a little annoying and she started to get on my nerves she seemed to be always whining all the time her constant refusal of Max even though she was all but giving her virginity to him when they were together frustrated me!Liked the fact though that Daphne was a loving and giving person when it came to the children of the orphanage which was uncommon of ladies of her station .Loved Max and his witty friends as they make a fine group of friends along with the burly Scot with mystery and danger about them.A Light fluff romance would have given it 4 stars but felt there was something missing maybe a little more romance and maybe a little for chase....Looking forward to the sequel in this series.
