Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon

Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic TaleMermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The story of two very different women, one mortal, one mermaid, and the clash between worlds best kept apart... It is a cold day at the end of the world when a young woman, a princess in hiding, looks out across a Northern sea and sees something she could not have seen. It looks...it can't be. It looks like a mermaid's tail. And, as she looks more closely, she sees that the mermaid is dragging a drowning sailor in her arms. Because, only hours before, another princess, the daughter of the sea queen, has decided to risk everything and take a look at the world above the sea: the world of mortals. And there she finds a storm, a shipwreck, a sailor, and sets in train events which will change both women's worlds forever.
                                      My thoughts,
Loved it ! Spin off on the tale of the little mermaid but not all fairy tales have happy endings like the should have.Lenia is a mermaid who saves a mans life  after being shipwrecked at sea turns out to be Prince Christopher. The mermaid brings the prince to the shore to be rescued by a nun. Turns out the nun is really a princess in hiding and Prince Christopher is actually her families enemy. Lenia cannot forget about the prince she saves and make a deal with a sea witch to give up her family  and the life she has known to be able to be with the man she loves.Love comes with sacrifices as always . Lenia has given up much to be with this man . Being without a voice is even harder for her to win the mans love. You root for her as you can't help not to she is so beautiful inside and out.And when things turn bad to worse she still stays strong and loving even knowing it will be costing her own life. I found myself crying toward the ending of the book wondering just how things would turn out as there were definitely heart wrenching decisions going on that had to be made that brought me to tears....
